Guest Darren Masters
There is a VFR aircraft (VPG) stuck above cloud and Sydney Departures now helping him descend through cloud. You can listen on my live feed. Scary situation. There is another emergency happening somewhere else I believe.
Guest Darren Masters
It is a Bell 407 chopper. Still stuck in cloud.
Guest Darren Masters
Thanks to the tower he is now out of cloud and out of trouble. Again highlights what going into IMC can do to a VFR pilot.

Guest OzChris
How does a chopper get stuck in cloud?? Wouldn't they just descend/ascend out of it? Im assuming they have instrument time, but if they are 'stuck in it' surely they are using instruments to stay stuck? hhmmmm...confusing :/

Sydney was totally overcast yesterday. By that I mean the whole sky. Departures advised to keep as straight and level as possible while descending through the cloud. The pilot sounded quite calm about it and eventually was out of cloud. I suppose in rotary you could roll the machine over not having spatial awareness.
