Guest Chainsaw Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Just like the UAL827 flight the other day, VH-OQC (1st commercial flight into Melbourne) is going down the Parkes track.
Guest David C Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I noticed the QF108 ( LAX-SYD ) tracking just to the West of Brissie on its way into SYD a few days ago too .. A little unusual , however , I doubt whether it adds many track miles to the overall trip . Dave C
Guest Chainsaw Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 yes Dave, must be a change in the jet stream.
Guest David C Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I was talking to a good mate of mine , a QF744 senior captain about flight tracks . He said that basically with ATC approval they can track which ever way they like , and that over a long haul flight such as LAX- SYD even a small variation in wind speed and direction could be significant , especially on fuel burn . Incidentally when we flew SYD-AUH a couple of months ago , the outbound flight took us over Derby , Bali , Singapore and Mumbai , while the return flight routed thousands of Kms further South over Male , Geraldton , Whyalla to Sydney , yet it was quicker .. Guest Chainsaw Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Interesting... Lots of other planes crossed the QLD coast this morning, maybe the jet stream theory is right. VH-OQC didn't waste any time here, off again to LAX from Mel around lunchtime.
