Guest Darren Masters Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 FIF (skydiving Cessna) was heard declaring a mayday on approach 135.9 with an engine failure not long ago. Pilot advised he was going to put the machine down in St Marys (near my place). I have called Ashley (the CFI of the skydiving club) and he was not even aware of it. He advised pilot flying was Jamie and is calling him now to see if he is ok. No further information.
Guest Darren Masters Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Advised that pilot and aircraft ok.
Guest Darren Masters Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 DarrenGreat news mate :) It is mate considering others have not been so lucky. I don't think the pilot could have hoped for a better result.
Robbo Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Did he get back to the airport? If not where did he ditch ?
Guest Darren Masters Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Did he get back to the airport? If not where did he ditch ? Not sure mate. Don't have any other info but I certainly don't think he made it back to the airport.
Guest David C Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 What a relief .... I heard FIF on the scanner earlier this morning , and was wondering who was flying .. I think Ashley spends time flying the C208 out of YWOL these days .. Remember looking at FIF at YHOX Darren ?? Dave C
Guest graham lea Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Not sure mate. Don't have any other info but I certainly don't think he made it back to the airport. There is a strip at St Marys. Wonder if Jamie has told his dad? :-) A good pilot is Jamie... I even let him fly my aircaft once!
Guest Darren Masters Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 G'day Graham. Long time no hear mate. Good to see you here again I recall meeting young Jamie that day at YHOX when you were there Graham. Dave, I remember the red rat very well  I know there are stacks of options on the other side of the M4. I used to eye them all the time and a few times went down lower for a closer look.
Guest AYV80R Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I also heard this transmission while flying from Prospect towards Warragamba, luckily he safely got it down without any problems/injuries to crew. Well done to him for doing such an excellent job.

Guest AYV80R Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Hey AYV80R. Welcome to the forums Do you know where exactly he came down as I am still none the wiser as the the actual location? Thanks Darren . yes, he landed at St Marys airfield. From what i can remember he had just completed a parachute drop, so i think he had some altitude which would have assisted him. All i can say is we are lucky St Marys has that small airstrip.. otherwise this could have been much worse.

I know the strip well and have had a closer look at that one too on occasions. I thought he would have put down there as it was probably the more suitable option. Well done to the PIC again

Guest Darren Masters Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 News for everyone: It wasn't Jamie flying it!! :-) The plot thickens...who was it?? PM if you like. When I spoke to Ashley he told me (well he thought) it was Jamie. Seeing as though I only got a text back from Ashley after it saying 'pilot and plane ok' I just assumed it was Jamie.
