Guest Capt Rex Kramer Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Anybody who attended avalon this year knows what a disater it was, those of us who were there sat and hung around through the atrocious morning weather were treated to the last F111 display and the awsome takeoff of the B1 lancer the sound/power just shot right through your body, yet once again and i have been to 3 avalon air shows the unpredictable fowl weather of avalon/ melbourne reared its ugly head once again, spoiling it all for everyone who laid down their $50. Now i was also their sunday and the weather was worse, with most of the programme cancelled with no announcements made over the PA as to what would fly and what would not, for fear of word of mouth stopping further paying customers entering the show i guess, So lets get this show up north where the weather is more stable, warmer and closer to the US bases that supply the star attractions as long as its held at the bottom of the world it will always be a bottom of the world rated air show!. Short of pulling of the impossible and getting the raptors for the next show in two years time i feel it will be a disater, two many people were stung hard this year display wise and price wise ($18 dollars for 2 hot chips 1 dagwood dog and 1 can of drink ) Organisers please note if the star attractions next show are aussies flying superhornets then it will be the end for aussie air shows. This is not a whinge just cold hard facts by someone who wants to support an Australian international airshow so lets get it out of hell on earth( AVALON) and on to a mud free RAAF BASE amberley or richmond.
Guest justAL Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 $18? Yeah? We pay that in the city, pretty cheap. :P It would be sad to see it go north. It's nice to have a show so close to the city.
GAJab Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Perhaps you have forgotten about one of the earlier Queensland international airshows that was completely cancelled due to the weather!
Guest Capt Rex Kramer Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Avalon is at the mercy of the weather being at the bottom of australia, with the weather changing at the drop of a hat courtesy of bass straight. While one airshow may have been cancelled in QLD (which are u refering to by the way) 3 out of 3 airshows that i have attended in avalon over the last ten years have had shocking weather just come out of nowhere, its just too unpredictable down there sun one minute howling wind and pelting rain the next, enough to even stop an F111 taking off and peforming its final ever display. And as i said before trudging through endless mud fields is not the way to go, if we are serious about holding a world class airshow showing the best of the best lets get it out of mebourne/avalon and up to RAAF- richmond nsw or amberley where the weather is much more stable and PREDICTABLE before we become the laughing stock of the world airshow calender!
Guest crankyfatcow Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Don't forget those of us who flew down for the day & purchased gold passes which were more than $50. I will never do that again, as much as I loved what I saw. I thought the weather was bad 2 years ago!!! But as I said to a security guy, seeing the A380 land was worth it for me. By the way, hi everyone, this is my 1st post, have been reading this forum for awhile now.
Guest Darren Masters Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Welcome Yes, fair call Capt Rex. Nothing worse than when an airshow is a total wash-out! I think YSRI would be alot more stable weather-wise as you say. I would say I am all for it but now I am living in NZ...Would probably fly back for that one though. They put on a good show there!
Guest richmondtroy Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 RAAF Richmond is probably out of the question, although i would love to see another airshow at the base. The last airshow there was touted as being the last ever for the base due to outside operational difficulties...ie TRAFFIC! With basically one lane roads in and out of Richmond there is always going to be bad congestion on the roads.
Parkeran Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 The show would be more enjoyable if it was at Amberley or Richmond. No more terrible weather. Grey planes against grey skies doesn't end well (especially when your trying to get a couple of good shots).
Guest Michael Coates Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 What about Oakey ? Lots of room, very stable weather, good access, no top secret stuff to hide etc....
