Sky Gazer Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I suspect this topic may have been weel and truly covered BUT I can't find anything with the search function soI will ask the question. Why am I not seeing more use if the Mazda Rotary engine in experimental Aviation ? The power to weight ratio would surely be a great advantage, fuel injection, turbo or bi- turbo ( probably more things to go wrong). Peter
hiperlight Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Rotary Engines Try these two links...I know they are not Mazda but interesting anyway. Phantom had an aircraft flying last year but dropped the testing after a bearing failure. http://www.ultralightnews.com/sunfun99/hiperlight.html http://www.ultralightflyer.com/airshow-snf05/22.html Bruce
vk3auu Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 If you are genuinely interested, send Tom Wickers an email at [email protected] He had on in one of his planes a couple of years ago. David
Sky Gazer Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 David , Thanks for the tip, but that is actually where I started. I was looking for some feeback from the avaiation population in general as to its suitability and pitfalls. Peter
Guest disperse Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 there's a guy selling a cobra arrow with the mazda in it in the RAA mag I think it's a bit fuel hungry but I don't know much
facthunter Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Rotary. Some of the Cobra fuel figures claimed are a bit ambitious, I feel. They can be expected to fall somewhere between a good 2-stroke and a conventional aero 4-stroke. (specific fuel consumption, fuel flow per Horsepower hour) Reliability should be a strong point if things are done right. Nev..
