Can anyone out there tell me

a) where the Southern Cross replica is at the moment ( I thought it was with HARS, but can't see any reference to it on their site)

b) what is its current condition? - eg being worked on, stacked in a corner & forgotten, flying, static etc.....

thanks in anticipation.

Earliest I have found is that it was with HARS in March 2008. Don't know if it is still with HARS or not.

That piccy was taken after it landed with a broken axle at Parafield. It damaged the wing and people have been trying to organise the funds to fix it ever since. If this had happened in the USA it would have been flying again within 12 months....

Smithy's original aircraft is the one in Brisbane - we're talking here about the replica.

I have a suspicion the wings and fuselage are now at different locations but would like some real-time info.

Both are at the HARS HQ at Wollongong (Wings and Fuse)

I'm still hoping for unequivocal information regarding the various questions asked in this thread - in the meantime, here's an image I pulled off the web some time ago: it was taken toward the end of January 2007, I think.

AFAIK, the fuselage is at Albion Pk, the wings in SA.

Cheers

That pic was taken when the aircraft was at Parafield on its way to HARS, the Wings are being restored in SA, and I am pretty sure that they hope to have the aircraft flying this year or next. I am pretty sure all efforts have since gone into getting the DC-4 back down south.
