Guest Darren Masters
On the way into OOL from AKL last night Friday 26th June Brisbane Centre lost their radar screens. Caused us to hold half way out at the Tasman. We were right in between Auckland and Brisbane on the radar screens. Orbited for a good 30mins. Pac Blue and Air New Zealand aircraft turned back. They eventually got the issue sorted much to our passengers relief finding out we were the only aircraft departing from NZ (in the same time frame) that made it in! Guest PaulR
Brisbane airspace did shut down for a little while. It caused a hiccup for anything going north of Brisbane. I know of one aircraft that was heading to Cairns, but had to make a side-trip to wait things out. Thankfully it wasn't an overly long delay, but I'm sure it caused a few headaches around the system.
