Guest ads Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Please excuse my ignornace on this matter; Why is it that most B767s and B737-400s do not appear on PP - what tracking equipment are these aircraft missing and why aren't they installed? cheers -adam
Guest Chainsaw Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Hi Adam, Those planes do not have the ADS-B gear on board. Also quite a few of the Qantas 738's also don't have it. For example of the VX* series, only VXT and VX? have it. A number of VB planes also don't. The jungle jets also don't. I think we will see more and more with ADS-B in time as more countries make it mandatory. Most internationals have it. The plan for Aust has been pushed out a bit. Firstly we will prob see anything over FL29 with it in the next few years. The B767's and the B734's are old...relatively speaking that is.
Guest ads Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Thanks for the reply and info, that clears things up a bit. Every now and then I see the 'green triangle' plots on PP, showing various VH-ZX* aircraft, which makes for a nice treat. Are these ACARS signals which are being picked up in order to display plots of these a/c?
Guest ads Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 yupWhat maps do you have? Just the basic ones which seem to do the job fine and I normally have google earth running at the same time. It would be nice to pick up some of the 767s. Being a larger aircraft they are a little easier to see in the distant sky. I'll have to put my radio scanner on at the right time and see what I can get any of their plots from their ACARS transmissions. cheers
