mrchavez
Can anyone here recommend a Flight Training School at Toowoomba? A few other questions I have about this location: Is the aerodrome swamped with GA/Training/Commercial traffic? How close is the training area? Do the schools in the area have large student backlogs? Are there many restricians due to the proximity of Residential Housing (My ERSA is out of date)? Thanks Ian
Guest djrose
G'day, I just started my flight training with the Darling Downs Aero Club at YTWB. Toowoomba is a regional city, that (from what I can tell) isn't 'swamped' with GA/Commercial traffic. It's got it, but it's certainly not ;Archerfield busy'. Actually in saying that, you need to know that it's CTAF®, not controlled airspace. The training area is about 3-5mins flight south of the aerodrome. There is one restriction when flying near the aerodrome, it's (from memory) about 3/4nm NNW of the aerodrome. There are 2 training organisations, the Darling Down Aero Club http://www.ddac.com.au or Aerotec flight training http://www.aerotec.com.au/training.html Both have their own pro & cons, but after much consideration I am doing my training with the Aero Club. I hope this helps. Damien.
GAJab
I dropped in there yesterday. A bit of big GA traffic coming and going, the runway is right in the middle of suburbia and quite high at over 2000 ft, big mound in runway can't see each end from the other, Oakey and Amberley are both nearby in terms of airspace, only thing I didn't like is it would get bumpy being inland versus coastal. Guest djrose
I can attest to those bumps. Was up on Saturday... a beautiful clear day... lots of turbulence. Made for an interesting lesson on flying straight & level!
