Guest Rob Mackay
The Houdini Festival of Flight will be held on the 21st March 2010 and the Lions Club invites all aviators to register your displays. On the 18th March 1910, the famous escapologist, Harry Houdini flew into Australia’s history by flying the first controlled powered airplane at Diggers Rest, located north-west of Melbourne. Now, exactly 100 years to the day, and over the subsequent weekend, Diggers Rest will commemorate this special occasion in our history with activities and displays that will stamp itself to be THE major attraction of community organised events for 2010 and many more years to come. For over 25 years the Lions Club of Diggers Rest have organised and held events such as an annual Auction and Clearing Sale which proved immensely popular and successful. Attended by thousands over the years, it was a successful enterprise for sellers, buyers, sponsors and advertisers, and it has been major projects such as these which enables the Lions Club to channel proceeds back into the community and community groups. Next year, on Sunday 21st March 2010, the Lions Club already have locked in events such as Aviation demonstrations, displays and exhibitions; Air and Static Aircraft displays; Joy flights; Model and Radio Controlled aircraft; related Craft Markets; Antique Steam Rally demonstrations; Fire and Emergency Services vintage and current displays and demonstrations; Amusement Rides and stalls; various catering stalls and vendors and so on. Please register your interest to display your: art work, a model aircraft, historical artifacts, or prize possession. While will be no charge for displays, there will be a small fee for anyone who wishes to sell items at a stall. Those proceeds will help us run the event and donate to charities such as the Royal Flying Doctors and the the GYFTS program. We look forward to hearing from you.
