Coop Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Gotta do the renewal thing again..... It's gonna cost $196 with Aviation ID Australia, but apparently only $160 with RA-Aus. Since I have both tickets now, I can take my pick (obviously I'll go for the cheaper one). But.... has anyone seen any prices less than this? Also, can people comment as to whether they have ever had their ASIC checked at any regional airport (ie not the main capital city airports or GAAP airports- I'd expect to get checked there). In 4 years of flying I have been into "Security controlled airports" on 64 occasions over 20 different airports from Geraldton to Bundaberg and many places in between (including Parafield once and Rockhampton twice), and guess how many times I have been checked? Yep, you guessed right. Zero. So where is the increased security? Why are we forking out this money? The Aviation ID people have included on their form a box where you have to explain why you need an ASIC. If I was renewing with this mob, I'd write "Buggered if I know". Coop
djpacro Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I've heard that students on navs have been checked at places such as Hamilton recently. I have an AVID instead of an ASIC, no-one has ever asked to see that either. I operate from Moorabbin, no need for an ASIC there.
Guest Michael Coates Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I have never been checked either and that includes GAAP airports and large placed like Cooly, Coffs, Cairns etc... waste of time and money if you ask me. The ONLY people to benefit are fence manufacturers.
TAA Student Pilot Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 You will all agree however that this initiative by our glorious previous prime minister the great lil Johhny Howard has done what he said it would, keep terrorists out of our airfields. Since this terrific security move was implemented there hasn't been one recorded case of a terrorist found behind the fence structures without an asic. Kids on bikes, hoons in cars, dogs running around (all without asic's) but NO TERRORISTS. You can still get on a regional Airliner at a regional airfield with bombs strapped to your body, a revolver in your pocket, a sharpened screwdriver in your sock witout security checks/ metal detection or any cursery inspection.
Mattie Cribb Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hey Hmm i thought Asics cost like $80-90 i dont remember paying $190 but yeah mine has never been checked and i fly out of Coolangatta and i havent Been Drug/Achole(spl) tested either nor seen anyone been tested but yeah i need to renew my Asic Next year grr so much effort
