Admin Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Do you think these would be worth investigating further to bring into Australia and if so how much would they sell for here - in your opinion 1. Size: L9.15xW14.0xH4.8m 2. Frame: Galvanized Trussed Steel Frame: 3. Cover: 600g/m2 PVC tarp, grey or white 4. A sliding door in the front panel, size: W12xH2.25m 5. Gross/net weight: 1440/1270kgs
eastmeg2 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Hi Ian, I'd say it depends on wind rating and resistance of the cover to UV exposure. And, Does the front entry open higher to let trikes in ? ? ? Cheers, Glen
Guest check-in Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I looked at a permanent hangar at Watts Bridge recently and it wasn't too strong. The owner had to fit extra bracing and even then the sides bowed and flexed in a stiff breeze. I would be wary of anything less than cyclone rated for our climate, as even in temperate parts we get willy willies and squall lines that can flatten any weak building in a flash. You would have to compare it with the cost of a good permanent hangar to work out what it should sell for.
Admin Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 Thanks Check-in - I need a hangar myself and found these so I was just curious on whether they were financially comparable to getting something here
Guest Rocko Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 We were at watts bridge after that big blow a while back, when that "permanent" hangar was wiped out. After landing on the airstrip, we parked for a bit. I couldn't help noticing a black object lying on the side of the runway. Went over for a look, and found it was a smashed up altimeter ;) Was a BAD blow, obviously! Something interesting the instructor at the airstrip mentioned last week, about hangers. He was thinking about putting in another hangar. For a single plane hangar, all up, costing was around $40K. However, for one that'd fit 8-10 planes, squished in, it was around $65K. So, might as well put in a bigger hangar, and rent out the spaces to others to help pay the bills ;)
t83 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Ian, They look very much like the temporary hangers at Penfield. I think there are about 6 there and having spoken to a few of the tennants/owners, all reckon they hold up to the wind/weather quite well. I think they have been on site for about 5 or so years. Maybe you should drop in and have a poke around. No idea what they paid, came from some mob in Sydney. Someone out there should be able to help you out. Let us know how you go, I'd be interested to find out the price myself.(yours as well as theirs) Regards, Mike
