Admin Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Time then to begin the competition for March. To win the next three editions of Australian Flying magazine for absolutely FREE, simply post your pictures or stories in this thread. The best of Aussie luck to you. Oh, also don't forget a Caption for your image and just say if you also have another copy of the image that is: jpg format at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) at a usable size (say 6" x 4" or around 16 x 10 cms) and if to be considered as a cover pic - in vertical format aircraft(s) identified in caption So if you win, your picture could go into Australian Flying magazine. This should be a big month for flying, so get snapping and get the pictures into this thread for your chance to win. AND a HUGE thanks to Australian Flying for supporting this great competition
Admin Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Shelley hasn't had time to judge it yet - won't be long
tvaner Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Having grown up in town next to the East Sale RAAF base and watching the assortment of aircraft from Winjeels to the majestic and mysterious U2’s come and go, and eagerly attending open days when they occurred, it’s not hard to believe that I’m an aviation nut who has had a life long aspiration to learn how to fly and a love of all things aviation. I suppose it didn’t help that the RAAF aerobatic team was, and still is, based there and practice in the area regularly. Last June during a conversation over a few reds at a family do with a mate (Bill), who also happens to be an RA pilot, I was asked, “if there were somewhere you would like to go, where would that be?†Now, now be nice. Seriously, how do you respond to a question like that? After some thought and further discussion the idea was hatched to attend a Temora Flying Weekend. Initially the plan was to hire a Jab from Tooradin for the weekend and take our time and a date was set. This had to be postponed through illness and a new date in November was set. As the time drew near, Bill’s GA instructor expressed an interest so it was agreed to hire a twin for the weekend and all three of us would go. The Piper Seminole being loaded up. We departed Moorabbin at approx. 0900 and flew IFR via Tullamarine, Mangalore, Corowa then Temora. We arrived just as the show was starting at 1100hrs. CA-13 Boomerang. Accommodation in town is nigh on impossible on these weekends but we managed to secure a home stay with some retired locals and were treated like royalty. Travel to & from the airport and a great breakfast Sunday morning. Temora Airfield on departure. The trip home was uneventful and total flying time was 3.7hrs. For those that have been to one of these weekends, I think they would agree they are a must see when you have the opportunity. The variety ie. Warbirds, GA’s, Vintage and Ultra light aircraft were all well represented. All photos are available in higher resolution JPEG format.
Guest pecram air Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Some wonderful shots there Keith, Keep up the good work. I hope to see a lot of the same at Wanaka this month. Phil C.
tvaner Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Thanks for that Phil. Took 800+ shots over the weekend. I was like a kid in a lolly shop. Enjoy Wanaka. Look forward to seeing some of the shots.
blueshed Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Sunday 2nd March Hi Rego's VH-SHW (Sir Hubert Wilkins), 24-5491 (5491 is Jamestowns Post code), This was taken at The "Sir Hubert Wilkins Aerodrome" Jamestown SA Sunday March 2nd 2008. Cheers Guy
Guest The Brown 1 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Great photo Guy, makes me sad that I have had to bail out and will not be able to take up your kind offer to fly with you; thats life mate and I cannot grizzle as I have had a real ball. Cheers ... George
Matt Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Point Cook Airshow Finally some internet access!!! Here's some taken at the Point Cook Airshow at the end of last month. A pair of Mustangs...there was actually in the formation but only got a good shot with 2 of them...and of course I managed to get a CT4 in the picture as well, see if you can spot it ;) And now for the CT4s, we are hoping to have at least 3 or 4 in a regular formation team later in the year. #77 in the below three pictures is the RAAF Museum's aircraft, the other aircraft is #44 owned by Murray Wallace of Gisborne who keeps his aircraft at Kyneton. You can just make out the fuel vapour venting from the underwing vents.
Kev Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Great photos Matt ...............the last photo (CT4 banking right) gets my vote! Safe Flying Kev
Guest Redair Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Is it my eyes, or have the elevators on that right-banked CT-4 been hooked up with the ailerons? Redair.
Mick Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Redair, Must be them new fangled "Tailerons"........... Maybe Ailevators.......... Cheers Mick

Guest Fred Bear Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Nice one Kev and love the sticker on the back of the helmet
Guest airsick Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Something different Most of the photos here are of planes, flying or something similar so I thought I would do something a little different. I was wandering around NatFly on Saturday evening and thought I would grab a few snaps of something other than aircraft. I came up with this. I think it captures the moment as the sun goes down on NatFly for another year. The photo was taken on Saturday evening which, for all intents and purposes, is the last night of NatFly. I didn't have a tripod so I couldn't get it quite right but I think it turned out alright given the circumstances.
Guest S Ross Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 The Australian Flying Photo (February) competition has just been judged. See result as last entry on Feb's thread.
old man emu Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Colyaer Freedom S100 Amphibian For those of you who missed this aircraft at Narromine, here are some pics plucked from the manufacturer's site. The first one in Australia underwent examination for its C of A at Camden today, 25/3/08. It is being registered as 24-5400, not VH-LUF as originally intended. Details of this a/c: Model Colyaer Freedom S100 Serial No 130-001-036 Manufactured December 2007 Engine: Rotax 912 ULS(100CV) - config 3 with PSU Prop: Airmaster AP232 with AC200 controller. It has a glass cockpit. The seating position is more upright than, say, a Jabiru. It rained at Camden before work was finished today. Perhaps it will be ready for its first flight tomorrow. It looks and smells nice, but I couldn't find the bait bucket. Old Man Emu
Ultralights Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 is that the same aircraft that was at narromine?
old man emu Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Yep. It was released from Customs on Friday and driven up to Narromine on Saturday for display. That's why it didn't fly. It came back to Camden on Sunday night and the designer, importer and others set about completing its C of A. When I left work, they were trying to figure out how to raise it of the ground so they could cycle the undercarriage. It has been raining here at Camden since mid-afternoon. I don't expect to see it flying before Thursday at the earliest. Old Man Emu
old man emu Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 The Freedom S100 is now flying in Australia as 24-5400. It left Camden for its base at Cessnock on Wednesday afternoon. I'm waiting on some photos to be sent to me so I can post them. If you are interested in this aircraft, check out the agent's site: www.colyaer.com.au By the way, I don't have any financial involvement with this aircraft. Old Man Emu
Flyer Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 A few more photos that I gathered from my last trip... The Auster is just a classic. It was the first time I had seen a Corby Starlett. I honestly thought they were bigger. The warrior was getting ready to go out and do its bird scaring duties at 7am. The murray always looks good from the air. The tiger moth is in pristine condition and the bloke who owns it spends as much time cleaning it as he does flying it. A great example. regards Phil

I don't know if digitals do it as well as film, but you get really pronounced stars from all lights.
Yenn Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 "you get really pronounced stars from all lights" To get star effects, try putting a piece of fly wire just in front of the lens, you can control the angle of the points by rotating the fly wire.
