Guest Darren Masters
Here is some video I filmed today. Now, I have been booked by these morons doing 9km/h over the limit here in Auckland (my radar detector was off at the time). I saw this one today at the 100km/h zone just coming into the 50km/h zone. Most people would not have had a chance to slow down (hence the nothing but revenue-raising). Luckily my detector went off so I warned others. Funny thing is, I followed this clown and look at the speed he is doing in the 30km/h zone. He is doing 20km/h over! These money-makers are owned by the company Redflex (which is part of Macquarie Bank) that owns Sydney Airport, the motorways, carparks and almost everything else in Australia (and here in NZ). In Aus these guys are booking you doing just 2-3km/h over the limit. What a joke! You can see the full description in my video. Pass it on :)
turboplanner
You have my sympathy Darren, a money making operation as bizarre as parking meters (which were introduced by shop keepers to ensure access to a flow of shoppers.) Speed cameras became a simple way to get a conviction rather than have police attending court to present their evidence and often getting it wrong. "Excessive speed" became a prevalent cause of fatalities and injuries (instead of an inappropriately placed pole/tree etc) The bonus was they caught every single person making a technical contravention. A breath of fresh air came to Queensland a couple of days ago when police figures showed that behavioural issue had overtaken speed to become the number one cause of accidents (crossing double lines etc) - close to 30%. Which is what you'd expect when you take your police off the roads and let the public behave as badly as they like.
red750
This sort of thing happens all the time. There was a story on A Current Affair last night about a fixed speed camera booking people doing 67 at an intersection with 70 km speed signs. VicRoads claim they don't know who put up the speed signs, as it is a 60 km zone. The signs were changed yesterday. Now there's a test case by those booked to get their fines refunded. Guest DWB
That's a classic Darren. I hope your rules in NZ are different to here though as here (in NSW anyway) they'd come after you for using the camera with the same law for using mobile phones whilst driving. Are detectors legal in NZ?
