cficare Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 we had a charter...go from YLST to YSSY..pick up some business men and return home.... Fuelled up the AC50 and with junior G3 as co-pilot (doing an twin endorsement)...off we went....easy first leg..land and refuelled.. checked WX prior to takeoff...Tassie was closed!...off we went ...co-pilot flying...solid IFR ....crossing the Victorian coast ...updated WX...Tassie still 'closed'... time to brief one another and consider the alternatives... Adelaide was clear...calculated PNR..(was at YFLI).. kept updating as we went....spoke to YMLT tower about 150nm out...still closed ...but!...may be improving... appproaching YFLI...its clear!!!...a hole about 20 mile radius!! decision made.... if we are unable to continue from the point where we are half way between YFLI and YMLT...we return to YFLI (based on observed rather than forecast data)... at the decision point...Launy is improving!!....a standard ILS....happy passengers....happy co-pilot! ...and the co-pilot?....now a Virgin Captain.
