Hi,

My dad just got home from Sydney on Tiger to Melbourne, landing at about 7pm. He says just as they were about to land they aborted the landing and had to circle around to safely land, anyway does anyone know why this happened?

Thanks, Ben

Could have been one of any number of reasons, one of which is a planned aborted landing for training purposes

At any time if ATC asks the crew to go-around they must initiate a go-around. If at any time the crew thinks that the landing is not within 'limits' they will initiate a go-around. This could be for a number of reasons. Traffic on the runway, change of wind to tail wind, incorrect landing config, reduced vis etc etc. They are quite normal and we do get them occasionally. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, my dad later told me that the pilot said something about a plane still being on the runway
