A FATHER and son miraculously escaped without serious injury after their plane crashed in a Bangholme paddock yesterday.

Springvale CFA station officer Matt Jones said fire crews were on standby in Moorabbin after the pilot had signalled the light plane had engine difficulties.

Mr Jones said the plane did not make it to the airport and crashed into a field with long grass at the end of Soden Rd about 4pm.

“The plane attempted to land but was flipped over on its nose as it came to rest,” Mr Jones said.

The male pilot in his 50s and 13-year-old son climbed out through a side window.

Mr Jones said the farmer who owned the property was mowing when he looked up and saw the plane coming down.

He immediately hopped in his tractor to go help them.

“Both occupants were very lucky to have survived the impact,” Mr Jones said.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Bentleigh said both suffered minor injuries and were taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.

Looks like a GROB ?? The grass is so long i doubt anything would have landed safely, sometimes you just CANT do anything but ride it out.

Now.... if it had a nosewheel...
