I was out at YMML at about 1:45 this afternoon, and spotted this aircraft near the John Holland hangars.

From the road it would have had the chain link fence completely obscuring the aircraft. So that I could frame the plane in one opening in the links as shown, I walked over to the fence and placed the front of the lens against it. This allowed me to crop the image as shown below.

Then I drove around to the other side of the airport and parked in the shade of a tree on the edge of the Melbourme Airport Golf Course to photograph planes taking off on 16. About 10 minutes later, an AFP van with lights flashing pulled up behind me and asked if it was me at the other location, and asked what I was doing there. Apparently someone reported that a person was spotted fiddling with a lock on the gate. After checking my drivers licence, rego, and looking at the images on my camera, they went on their way. I continued to photo for another half an hour or so before moving around to Church Lane to photograph landing aircraft.

Well, I guess it was. Can anyone advise the model - it's not on the CASA register yet (still shows a Vans RV-4).

At most of the busy spotters sites if you look carefully you can see the spotters spotting the spotters if you know what I mean. Most of you keen photographers WILL have an ASIO file, gotta love our security services, saving the world:D

It's a Gulfstream G200.

The reason it's not on the register is because the rego is VP-BHP as it's not a VH reg.

Not sure where it's registered, it's not US but it does spend a bit of time in Vegas. Likely an Asian millionaire has been visiting Crown Casino.

That would be registered in Bermuda (Thanks Google)

Thanks guys. Strange how your mind sees what it expects to see, if you see the first V, you assume VH.

There's no padlocked gate where you were ? there's an automatic gate that goes into the training area for Virgin, but no paddlock, I'm thinking it was Robbo who dopped you in, for fun !

and the plane, I first saw around Oct '12

The automatic gate is marked A below, there is a double locked gate in the area marked B.

Hi Robbo,

Would love to, but I am in Vermont, and in this heat I'm not going anywhere. Was there on Wednesday because I was picking up an Android tablet from a place 2 km down South Centre Rd. The wife bought it over the internet for $30.

Apoligises Peter, I've been in that area many times but had never noticed the gate, - Found It ! :). it's not a used one, I'm sure it's welded up. Good that you couldn't meet up with Robbo, he might've had his AFP mates with him for a laugh.

PS - nice graphics.
