"Inflight meditation" sounds like it might be an April Fool's gag, but it is legit. Qantas announced the expansion of its entertainment offering today, including a video series of guided meditations.

But that's not all - Apple Music, Audible and Stan content have all been given a boost.

The ten minute videos have been "specially designed to bring a sense of calm and help customers unwind in the air", Qantas says, with aerial footage of Australian deserts, bushlands, coasts, forests and locations at twilight accompanying the audio. There's the option to watch it on VR, too.

"Customers tell us they value being able to take time for themselves inflight and watch a movie or read a book, and now we can help them find a little extra relaxation with guided meditation," said Qantas Chief Customer Officer Vanessa Hudson, "Between the special offers from our content providers, programs on seatback screens and Wi-Fi rolling out on domestic aircraft, there will be no shortage of entertainment on board."

We watched 22 million hours of inflight entertainment on Qantas flights last year, so the airline has ended up with a pretty good idea of what we are after while we are in the air.

The Apple Music, Audible and Stan options are all via paid subscriptions, which of course you'll be able to access off the aircraft, too. You can download everything before you fly via the Qantas app, or stream it inflight "on selected domestic Wi-Fi aircraft".

The Apple Music subscription gives you four months free, the Audible one gives you one free audiobook per month for the first three months, and Stan is offering three months of unlimited access to TV shows and movies to new Stan customers on all Qantas flights.

Each of the offers will be rolling out over the month of June.

Qantas is rolling out Wi-Fi across its domestic fleet of A330s and B737s. Under a partnership with global broadband services provider ViaSat that uses NBN satellites, the service promisies speeds up to 10 times faster than conventional on-board Wi-Fi.
