Thruster88 Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Ozrunways has tracked us at lake Eyre even though we had no coverage flying at 500 feet up the lake, how does this work and is it useful in a search and rescue situation?
onetrack Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 It's because your iPads GPS still works to connect to satellites, even with no SIM card or no mobile tower signal. I can't advise how this would work as regards SAR, because I'm not involved in SAR - but no doubt the SAR co-ordinators will utilise every available tool at their disposal. pmccarthy Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 If this was just on your own iPad then no mystery. If it was on the Ozrunways tracking site then you must have be connected via SIM to the phone network 1
