rhtrudder Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Came across a ap a while ago that used a small servo that controlled a trim tab mounted in the aileron , anyone know who made them
Guy s Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Tru Trak had something like that which you riveted a trim tab to one aileron which you then installed a small servo into the aileron, This was about 3-4yrs ago I saw this advertise but haven't seen it since, I thought at the time what a great idea with the simplicity of it. But not sure if they discontinue with the idea for some reason.
Kyle Communications Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 I too was keen on it and watched the development. Then it all went quiet so I asked them the question. This is the response back from the CEO in October last year Hey Mark, The ECO has been discontinued and it is no longer available. rhtrudder Posted June 6, 2019 Author Posted June 6, 2019 Thanks for your replies, that was the one , I thought it was a good idea to, take all the weight off the controls
Kyle Communications Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 Yes but I think the issue was mounting them on certified aircraft..they would have had to do all the paperwork for each type. It of course would have been no drama for RAA here though
Thruster88 Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 There could be issues with flutter, who wants to be A test pilot?
kasper Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 There could be issues with flutter, who wants to be A test pilot? [/QUOTe] Every home built aircraft has a test pilot in it every time it takes off ... 1
facthunter Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 Nonetheless a trim tab will most likely flutter if the connection fails You might be able to include a damper in the design. There's enough unknown hazards without adding a "Known" one. Nev 1
skippydiesel Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Every home built aircraft has a test pilot in it every time it takes off ... Kasper what sort of a machine are you aviating in ? My kit/home built has been in the air since 2000 and has almost 900 hrs on engine/air frame. As far as I am concerned its a proven aircraft, that presents no more risk than any other aircraft of similar size, design, material construction and engine type that is operated within the manufactures/suppliers recommended flight envelope - in short it has long since left the "test" stage.
poteroo Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 There was an STC approval for an electric aileron trim adjustment back in the 80s, and there were a few fitted to Cessnas in Australia. Can't see it offered anymore and it may well have been discontinued due product liability issues. In any case, if the aircraft is rigged accurately, and then flown in balance, fuel should be used evenly from both tanks = the aircraft continues to fly 'wings level' Flap re-adjustment might be a better approach than aileron trim tabs? happy days,
facthunter Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 I wouldn't recommend anything that reduced the simplicity of flaps operating without asymmetry problems. Nev 1
