Blueadventures Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Anyone on the forum getting to this event at Shute Harbour Airstrip in September either flying in or driving? Last year we did not sign up for the formal dinner just bought eats and drinks at the variety of food and drink stall vendors and there were tables and seating available or there is the formal sit down at made up tables. May see some of you forum members there. Cheers 1

Old Koreelah Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Bluey why don't you post it on the Events site? Save a bit of work for slow old buggers like me who can't keep up with all the upcoming attractions. 1

Deskpilot Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Am flying (commercial) up from Adelaide on Thursday and staying at Airlie Beach. 2
derekliston Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 yeah we hope to be there probably flying in commercial and staying somewhere in airlie If you book a cabin on Flametree holiday park you can just walk through the footpath to the airfield. Only around 100 metres. We always book site number 1 with our camper trailer which is right beside the airfield fence, put the chairs out, feet up and watch the action. 2
Blueadventures Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 Got an email today 90 aircraft visiting. Near the door on my Nynja is my forum name and mobile. Give me a call and we'll catchup. Same for all members. I'm also in the park. Hope to catch up dk and do. Cheers. 2
BusaKaine Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 I’m flying in with my wife, leaving YBAF Friday around 8, stopping YTNG for a comfort stop then onto YSHR. We are staying at Big 4 eco resort... fancy name for a caravan park. Have a cabin for the 3 nights.
Blueadventures Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Arrived at Shute Airstrip. Some early arrivals. 4 of the air show aircraft arrived mad to late afternoon. Nice flight up from Mackay. Sky was clear. Summers on the way 31 deg C. Tomorrow will be busy with arrivals, local movements and practice. Perfect weather forecast. No whales seen. A ship in the bay. Looking forward to the show, meeting up with friends and the evending dinner. 4 1
Bennyboy320 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Should be a huge turnout, there were 8 sea planes at Caboolture yesterday on their way up the coast for the event. Have fun. 1
Blueadventures Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 32 is the active. For first timers it's interesting as you don't see airstrip until late on final. Yesterday was my first landing 32 and as fortune happened I was second so learnt to be wide to left towards hills. Then sight house roofs then sight runway. I'll get busy as day goes on. Wind is light from north. Will be a hot day though. They are running it great with pickups from aircraft to terminal and back to aircraft if needed. Cheers 1
Deskpilot Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 OK, so I visited the Air-show, took some photos and made some videos. I've put them in some sort of order , not as I took them. Hopefully grouped more "subjectively" . You even get to see where my wife and I stayed for the week. Enjoy. Oh sound up for the videos. z001.AVI z01.AVI z010.AVI z011.AVI z02.AVI z03.AVI z04.AVI z05.AVI z06.AVI z07.AVI z09.AVI 7 1
Blueadventures Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 Nice photos. What a great show and the hills in the back ground really set off the displays and bring the aircraft close. We almost met up. I'm sitting on the chair under the helicopter tail boom in your 5th image down on the right column. (Light blue t shirt.) I was up there again this morning to pick up the Nynja that a mate kept in his hangar as Sundays weather was crap. (I got there at 7am and he had the Nynja rolled out, screen cover off and polishing the windscreen; true north Queensland hospitality. I had a nice bottle of wine as thanks; but should have brought two up.) Had a great flight back home. Did some sight seeing off track and took 1.3 hours. Must catch up next time. Cheers
Deskpilot Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Yes, a great show from a little known place. I hope the videos worked for you. After the Mustang took off, I was expecting him to go round the facing hill and come back from the right at low level and full bore. At least, that's what I would have done. I didn't film any off the flying as I have a crap camera and a very stiff neck. Cheers
Blueadventures Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 Had a nice return flight yesterday from Shute Harbour Air Strip. Left it up there with the weather on Sunday and predicted severe weather and dust for Monday. Great hospitality from Alan who had hangar space. When I arrived he had the Nynja rolled out and had polished the windscreen for the flight home. Weather was great. After takeoff continued south over Shute harbour, then down between Long Island and the mainland, at Cow Island turned right and fly coastal to Palmyra. Also flew over a new strip being preped. Cheers. 1
