" Running out of water because no State water grid"

Today

It's raining ! :Yippee.

So Council have sent a flyer warning of floods, & spending more money on "FloodSmarts" new free online flood warning service.

Forgetting the NBN will stop the house phones & oldies internet services.

council are spending council money to develop a council asset. if RMP leaves the airport everyone gets a nice clubhouse, if RMP makes a go of it then the council gets its money back through rent. I don't see what they issue is

Yes, at least council are smart enough to retain ownership and put money into a tangible asset.

What if they just gave the comany half a mil interest free loan? And then they did a runner..?

There's a hundred threads on here deriding councils for not investing in airports. This council may not be doing it perfectly to everyones wishes, but hey, it's something for aviation.

Its hard to justify the investment in new facilities at the airport when GA is declining and unlikely to change or without a customer. I'd say RMP have approached the council looking for a facility to rent and the council are satisfied RMP can pay the rent for the next 5 years. Apart from them being Indian, I can't see what the problem is.

Do you really think that an aero club is going to pay the Council the same rent, based on commercial leasing criteria that a commercial enterprise would?

If aero clubs were as financially viable as that suggests, then every open paddock with a windsock would have an aero club.

That's patently obvious fly.  The question is why you don't see it.  Where do you live again?  I was in Toowoomba on the weekend.  Might have bumped into you at the Gowrie Road.

If the business venture with the Indians fail, the council will be looking to save face.

And if the local pilots are smart they will come to the rescue.

At that point the money has already been spent, so just utilising it (even for a token fee) will take the pressure off council.

Perhaps people should look at this as a potential opportunity.

The council could just as easily blow the money on a million totally non-beneficial things..... and no-one would have anything to show for it at all.

So now we are going to get a water grid to drought proof the country. ?  Why stop there? BUY some of the Sahara and build a desal  More people there who need it. .All the aquifers in this country are now poisoned or depleted. There was a time artesian water did that job. The water grid will be privatised and water will be the new GOLD.  Buy a glass before the price goes up.  Nev

Well, maybe not actually get a water grid, but pay for it anyway Nev.  Then Govt will sell it off to "private enterprise" cheap and charge them interest on the money they borrow to buy it, so they have to recoup their costs by charging us more for the water we owned in the first place.  That's exactly the same scam they ran with the Federal Airports Corporation, and we're still paying for being stupid enough to let them get away with it.  The commercialisation of our own water was being boasted about by HSBC on a series of posters as I walked down the gangplank into Brisbane Airport early this year.  They read, "Water, the most precious currency of all...."    And here we are arguing about whether ratepayers are being ripped off for a lousy $300k.   That's peanuts compared to the $60 Billion for the NBN, and the money we'll end up paying for water in the long term.

it is probable that Warwick Council evaluated the complete business plan of the company and not at the information that they found by googling.

From what I know not all Aussies are stupid. lol

Possibly true, but we are talking about politicians!

But some Aussies are stupid. We sure vote for stupid things. In South Australia, we are the Nigeria of uranium and should have the cheapest electricity in the world.

Instead we have the most expensive.

The premier who got into power by promising that state electricity assets would NOT be sold changed his mind after the election, but he still said that competition would drive the price down. The price has at least quadrupled since. That premier is now an honoured statesman who gets lucrative directorships from both sides of politics.

Then we have the new wind and solar inputs ,so far with no real storage ( the battery farm is more of a grid-stabilizer ) . These inputs have been used as a reason ( or excuse ) to jack the prices up again.

Negative power price ( even wholesale ) is silly I reckon. But nothing more is needed to show the intermittent nature of our solar and wind.

We sure need cheaper storage. There are many ways to store the energy but they are all too expensive to attract real investment.

You can buy a "battery wall" to do your own storage and find out yourself how uneconomical it is.  Personally, I would recommend a camping-type generator  for anybody so scared of an outage that they are considering a battery set.

that's the beauty of privatisation, wholesale prices go down and profits go up. have you seen https://opennem.org.au/energy/sa1/

SA producing so much power now that the wholesale price goes negative

Only at certain off peak times when no-one is using it.  Having a floating electricity price is like having a constantly fluctuating fuel price.  It changes so often and so much without any valid reason people simply accept being screwed mercilessly rather than try to make sense of it.   And I'd still like to know whether you actually live in Toowoomba because we might have a lot of shared friends.
