planedriver Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 These guys need to buy more than a lottery ticket to have escaped this near miss. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-49715399 1
Downunder Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 I'm not sure about commending the control tower. If they were doing their job properly this situation would not have arisen in the first place? 2
planedriver Posted September 22, 2019 Author Posted September 22, 2019 For sure, the instructor reacting to the shadow and hearing the other aircraft noise get's the gurney in my books. A situation that the tower should have been on top of way before that point.
onetrack Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 "Trial flying lessons" says the sign. Learn here, via "trial and error"?
Jerry_Atrick Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Sibson is for all intents and purposes and uncontrolled aerodrome. The "tower" has not ATC or flight information service. It has an air/ground radio service, whch simply passes on information about the airfield - e.g. wind, runway currently being used (i.e. they don't stipulate which runway to use, either). My home airfield also as an a/g radio - and more often than not, it is not manned. Crazy when you think about it as there is also an active parachuting operation there... 1
spacesailor Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Does the person on the ground have a "Ground Aviation " radio licence? . spacesailor
facthunter Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Unless you are qualified and authorised for ATC duties you would want something in the way of a dispensation to actively CONTROL traffic. Advisory is all you can do "officially". At the subsequent inquiry perhaps doing nothing at a dangerous time might be questioned but "the law is an ass" they say. Nev
Jerry_Atrick Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 I am not sure of the exact licence the radio operators have, but they have to do some training and pass a test. It is of a much lower standard than ATC. ot Aerordroe FLight Information Offiver.
