There's been no recent light aircraft crash in Darwin. You are probably reading old news, about the 64 yr old bloke killed in his Savannah, 27th Oct 2019.

The aircraft missing, after taking off from Casino, has not been found. SAR is still on.

Weather wasnt good yesterday. Looks like he took off from Evans Heads to go to Boonah but turned back not far from the border as he couldnt get through then flew back to casino. Took off again later and started chasing the weather over the mountains trying to get through as his track was going further west all the time

The single-engine aircraft, with two people on board, left Casino Airport about 2pm and was due to arrive in Boonah about an hour later but never arrived.

Authorities say the plane crashed about 1.5km into the Koreelah National Park north-west of Casino.

It was spotted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew about 9.45am today.

Very sad.

And to watch the flight radar track with the last report at 3.375ft and 174kts when it is over ground at around 3,300ft is just horrible ... and to watch when 2 min before it was at 4,000ft

Onetrack when I posted that I had already had information direct from the family might pay to check before you comment

A terrible outcome, but coupled with the recent Mooney crash near Coffs it shows the benefits of ADS-B in the event something happens.

Yes condolences to all the family. I actually met the pilot only about 2 months ago. he was visiting another Whittman owner in the hangar behind me at Ycab..It was a very nicely put together aircraft and he was a really nice guy to chat to. From memory he had his son with him.

I believe that we all should have ADSB...the obvious issue is the outrageous cost of the equipment which of course there is no excuse for except profiteering in a captured market. CASA and Air Services have allowed non certified units to be used but of course none are available because the manufacturers would have to discount within their own closed market. The units should be available at way less than half the cost of the certified units as well all know the only difference is a very expensive piece of paper that comes with exactly the same unit. The safety improvements are so much higher and better. They all say we should be as safe as you can be but when it comes to the crunch they all want to screw us over on price.

Perhaps people might be found earlier which could lead to a different outcome.  Also, regardless of outcome, lets the families know earlier what has happened.

Very sad outcome for all of us.

He came down in my home country, better known as Yowie country because there are precious few places to put down a quick aeroplane and almost none you'd get out of again.

Aldo, I fail to understand how you can post 6 hrs ago, that there was two deceased, when the aircraft wreckage was only located at 9.45AM this morning, and it took Police until 3:00PM today to walk into the site on foot, and confirm two deceased.

I take Aldo's source of info as most accurate being from those affected and most likely informed by Police. News reports are regularly incorrect. Under the circumstances I won't comment further on open forum other than to say information on the forum is always appreciated. Best regards Mike

It isnt going to prevent a crash of course but can make discovery time so much faster. Either by SAR or a loved one monitoring you on the way.

406 MHz ELT?

Yes thats fine provided you can operate it or it isnt destroyed in the crash. You can NEVER beat real time tracking and logging...EVER. Its just a fact

This crash site is not far from where I very nearly killed myself and now wife after taking off from Cherrabah in a Cessna 172xp. I was young and inexperienced, the PPL instrument training only just saved us, we were very lucky. I have not flown near bad weather since then. Unfortunately there are a few of these occurrences each year.

It appears the wankers who create the news articles added the 'old' news, creating a false belief. Such unprofessional behavior.
