Head in the clouds Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I regret to inform of the passing of Lance Billman. From the early days Lance was one of the true 'characters' of the ultralight fraternity and will be very much missed. Lance was one of the founding members of the Gold Coast Ultralights Club in the 1980s, and was one of the few Honorary Life Members. More recently he was based at the Dunwich airstrip on North Stradbroke Island. Lance had gone north in his campervan to his hometown of Townsville. While enjoying the hot springs at Atherton near Cairns he suffered a fatal heart attack. It has been mentioned that Lance's brother, Laurie, is flying to Atherton where the cremation may take place before the ashes are returned to Straddie according to Lance's wishes. There has also been mention of one of the famous Straddie fly-in breakfasts being a Memorial event, those who would like to attend can find contact details here.
M61A1 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Very sad to hear.....I used to stop in at Coomera on a regular basis, I've spent quite a bit of time with Lance & Barrie, but much less so since the move to Dunwich. Lance was one of my L2 referees.
Tecsar Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Sad news indeed. While I did not know Lance for long, I very much enjoyed chatting with him at recent years Dunwich breakfasts. Lots of history and great stories with Lance. RIP.
DAVID SEE Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 R.I.P. Lance, your knowledge on two-strokes was incredible. I was fortunate enough to have shared many coffees with Lance, Barry and Nick before Sigley Field was buried under tiled roofs and you moved to Dunwitch.
