from the article you quoted

But a second piece of good news is that the Chinese are lifting their social distancing and the country is slowly getting back to normal. At the same time, an Australian Mathematical model paper is published which clearly predicts that compliance with “social distancing” must be 80 or 90% otherwise it will not work. My friend Peter Doherty in Australia has reminded everyone that the positive effects of this intervention similar to which we are trying to do here) will take 2 weeks to filter through to fewer deaths etc, so do not expect instant results! Incidentally Peter has ‘form’ because of his Nobel Prize! There must be 80-90% compliance.

Social distancing works with any thing that is transmissible between humans.

The Dr is stating the obvious - Keep yer distance works with aids, with the common cold, etc... Keep yer distance and you wont even smell other peoples farts..?

The main point the Dr made were:

Via, Professor John Oxford. Influenza specialist...

“...Personally, I would say the best advice is to spend less time watching TV news which is sensational and not very good.

Personally, I view this Covid outbreak as akin to a bad winter influenza epidemic.

In this case we have had 8000 deaths this last year in the ‘at risk’ groups viz over 65% people with heart disease etc.

I do not feel this current Covid will exceed this number. We are suffering from a media epidemic!...”

Getting back to flying, how is it that an activity that you undertake by yourself in any way threatening public order or safety? Banning golf may be acceptable on psychological grounds (20 years of experience in that form of personal abuse) but maybe healthier than staying indoors.

None of the bans are for public order or safety in the sense of being beaten up or shot.

Isolating people from each other breaks the chain of the virus being able to get up your nose.

That is currently the only defence until a vaccine is found.

And when will that vaccine be found ?

As guidance to how long before we have a vaccine - Do we have a vaccine for the prior versions of this virus ?

As the Dr said - this CCP virus will be an on-going thing like the common cold.

Most likely every time you lift the ‘social distancing’ rule there will be a new outbreak.

How long do we keep every one home ?

And flying solo is about as isolated as you can be . Not all us live in cities. Many times I go flying without interacting with a single person from when I walkout my door to when I walk back in.

Just put him/her/them on your ignore list. Problem solved.

This is a very broad church, mosque, synagogue, temple... And I would not consider blocking people who are not being repeatedly being personally offensive as not being open to others opinions and facts... And I am looking forward in earnest (and I am being serious) to everyone providing constructive and substantiated facts, opinions and debates..

My comment was simply (and I am yet to have read those since making mine, so apologies if I have missed something) that the arguments are the same and seem to be just going arond the treadmill..

Meanwhile, overseas...

“...A mob of at least 100 locals threw stones at doctors sent to screen people for the Chinese coronavirus in central India on Wednesday...”

For those who just cannot, or will not comprehend. Even if we get rid-of/suppress the CCP virus in Australia. Just when do you open the borders to international travel ? The virus will still be all round the world ready to re-infect the moment we let anyone in..?

Nuf fer now. The day beckons..?

All recreational activity apart from personal exercise has now been banned in Victoria, possibly till the end of May or June. This includes boating, fishing, hiking, golf, and although not explicitly listed, by inference this includes recreational flying.

Regardless of Poly's other activities like arms dealing, as a global organisation with a wide reach they were most likely told by the Chinese Government to source all this PPE, and they did with a great deal of efficiency. At the time the Chinese may have thought the likelihood of containment was very low. Now they can re-export it all back and make a profit.

That wasn't an invitation for your personal form of justification.

The fines in Victoria have just been lifted to $20,000

If you buy fuel on the way to the airfield you stand a chance of contaminating someone or someone contaminating you.

If someone else happens to be at the airfield there's another chance of cross-contamination

If you use a toilet at the airfield, another chance

If you use a tap, another chance

If you open a public or shared hangar

and so on.

Regardless of this, you don't get the chance to put on your own spin when a Chief Medical officer makes an order.

Petrol stations must be one of the best places to get contaminated. Everyone has to pick up the pump nozzle & often the office/payment area is quite confined. Wearing disposable gloves is a good idea but most people do not know how to remove them without contaminating themselves. It is dead simple & taught during first aid training. Then of course it is "Wash your hands thoroughly" & don't touch your face..

The rules not only vary by State but also by the day. In QLD you can go fishing in your Tinnie (changed from not allowed yesterday) & you can paddle board, kayak etc but must observe social distancing. Changes have occurred overnight in NSW too. As an Aerodrome Operator executive member I can go to the Aerodrome for work. My labour is free & mostly entails mowing and maintenance work. This can't be done from home. The aerodrome must be maintained in an operative condition for Emergency services. Like everyone I can also purchase fuel & that is about the only activity that involve getting near anyone else if I choose to go to my hangar, & go for a fly solo & return.

And when will that vaccine be found ?

There are several dedicated Australian Government websites, plus Commonwealth Government and State websites where you can get this information which applies to Australia and comes from Australians.

What the Prime Minister has told you, and your State Chief Medical Officer has told you, and I think was available on this site was that several vaccines have been found that kill the virus, including at least two that CSIRO are working on at their Laboratory in Geelong.

As guidance to how long before we have a vaccine - Do we have a vaccine for the prior versions of this virus ?

There is no prior verson of this virus; it is a new one.

Again, what you have been told by the Prime Minister etc and the Scientists is that testing for human use will take about 12 months.

So, effectively we have to get through this season by learning how to maintain separation from each other, and what we all should be doing is thinking about how we could do meaningful work using safe procedures.

As the Dr said - this CCP virus will be an on-going thing like the common cold.

There is no such thing as CCP virus. This one started in China, but could easily have started anywhere else in the world. Around the 1970s there was a breakout of avian influenza on a duck farm in Keysborough, Victoria. Avian influenza does transfer to humans and is a virulent killer, but was stopped in its tracks when the Victorian Department of Health ordered the killing of a million ducks. Some goose in China could easily have called it the Australian Virus, but they all had more sense.

Covid-19, when a vaccine is approved will be less critical, if people have vaccinations before the season, and there are plenty that don't.

Most likely every time you lift the ‘social distancing’ rule there will be a new outbreak.

Correct.

Right now you could argue that allowing people to go to essential work cold be spreading the virus, and if there is any spread from that, those businesses will have to be isolated, with workers living on site or in accommodation nearby.

How long do we keep every one home ?

Until a virus is found or we learn new techniques of separation (like "islands" of people or zones where everyone in the island is clear)

We haven't gone to Stage 4 yet; community transmission has begun in Stage 3 and will continue to rise if people dopn't stay home.

This blew up in Victoria yesterday (not through illegal flying), and overnight Fishing, Camping Boating and Golfing ( where people had been using the same reverse-logic excuses as we find here) attracted a $20,000 fine if anyone is caught.

I would go for a ride, to go for a fly.

What counts as exercise?

There are a number of options other than walking, jogging, or riding a bike.

Still they come.

Police in several States have been shown walking around the Parks and getting sunbakers, talkers, coffee drinkers, breast feeders, pusher pushers to go home. The Stage 3 message is "If you can stay home you must stay home."

The point was that you could fly and comply with the intent of the law, but not the letter of the law.

If I fuel my jerrycans at the same time I fuel my vehicle to attend work, then there is no more risk. The is no toilet, no tap, or anyone else at the hangar. It’s a shed ina large paddock in the middle of nowhere. Most of this country does not resemble urban Melbourne. It’s really not a difficult concept to grasp.

As I said before, since they changed the words from “should” to “must” , I stay at home as required because QLD cops cannot be trusted with a little authority let alone a loose reign. I do actually understand that regardless of what I think of the law, non-compliance could be expensive.

I drove into Bendigo this morning to go to the hardware store, 50km each way. Activity and traffic look much the same as usual, supermarket car park half full. Plenty of people out and about.

Went to my local Coles supermarket this morning - so busy social distancing could not be practiced except perhaps by those women pushing two trolleys loaded to the brim. At the checkout contagion was easily possible as the goods were passed from the customers trolley to the checkout chick (yes she was) who handled it, then passed it on to a rotunda that could have been contaminated by the dirty re-useable bags of the previous customer for packing.

Life is full of risk. Meanwhile no one has mentioned how many people have died on the roads during the period of panic. One thing is for sure that death toll exceeds the covid-19 toll.

I doubt that's the case in Italy where the virus is killing near 900 per day. Britain is more than 1/2 that and climbing. Nev

I am sure younger, fit or otherwise healthy people who contract it and the succumb are not in the same category of numbers as those who have underlying issues or at risk age group, etc, however, here is, sadly, another: Coronavirus victim, 21, 'had no health issues'...

An update to the story...?

“...According to a report published in the Guardian the hospital which treated her did not record her as a victim of coronavirus, despite a coroner subsequently connecting her death to the disease.

Middleton was taken to Wexham Park hospital in Slough last weekend after she had a heart attack. Attempts to resuscitate her failed and she was pronounced dead soon after arriving… A Berkshire coroner said the death was related to Covid-19 after being told Middleton had a cough, the source said. But this surprised medics at the hospital, who have not recorded it as a coronavirus incident.’

An NHS source tells the Guardian that ‘the coroner’s move “raised eyebrows” at the hospital because [Middleton] had not tested positive for the disease’.

But the Guardian has since taken down its original article “pending review”...”
