Is any of the above relevant to the China flu..?

If I got into conversation with a stranger about aviation and they referred the the aircrafts accelerator rather than the throttle I would probably dismiss what they had to say or at least realize that they were certainly not knowledgeable on the subject.

The virus is Cov-2 it causes the Covid 19 illness.

The use of inaccurate terminology detracts from any point you are trying to make. I am wondering why you believe china flu or china virus is better or more accurate language to use? Apart from the fact that calling it flu is just incorrect even calling it china virus is hopelessly vague especially after this is over. How will people know whether you are referring to SARS of 2003 or any other illness that was first detected in that country.

Oh by the way where did the Spanish flu (N1H1) originate? (probably not where you think)

The full name of the virus is "SARS-Cov-2" meaning "Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2" which causes the disease Covid-19 (Coronavirus disease 19).

I explained the psychological reasons for allowing hairuts.

Anyone who wants to contaminate themselves or anyone else doesn't have to read this.

Even if open recreational activities were legal, if you are infected and from your example, had an accident on the way over or back, you could contaminate the people you might be helping or the emergency workers or vice versa if they were contaminating.

If contaminated people have been pressing the button or using the wash basin at your local airfield, then even though there's no one there you can pick up the virus for several hours after they leave, and then spread it to your own family.

The health people and the Premiers aren't looking for your interpretation of whats fair, they are dealing with a population of all sorts of people from health professionals to grumpy old men, and they are hitting us with blanket bans that in ordinary circumstances would have waited for definitions and public comments. They don't have the time to do that, so the confused will be some of the victims. That's what happens in a crisis.

As I said, going for a lone flight in the middle of nowhere complies with current government restrictions as advertised on the government website. Nothing to argue about.

Your continued reference to Covid-19 (Coronavirus) as China flu is incorrect, shows an anti Chinese bias and is bordering on racism.

Like calling it the Spanish flue? Irony probably started in the USA but anyway.

China flu has nothing to do with race its a geographical location and it is where it started (wet markets). Virtual signaling your "moral" values is ridiculous. I preferr to use Kung Flu.

It is unclear what we are allowed to do here in Victoria. Travel is limited to essential travel. But ABC local radio this morning suggests we drive into the country and walk a rail trail. I would like to go flying tomorrow. I'm sure it is OK with CASA etc but is it essential? It must fall into the same category as any pleasure driving or motorcycle riding (which I am unsure about). We are not yet in lock down, the streets in our town and the shops are quite busy. Confusion reigned, and we all got wet.

Planes have to be run or they rust, and we have to stay current. Ergo it is essential.

No not virtue signalling just accuracy. I cant stress enough it is not a flu virus. And in order to distinguish it from other epidemics we need to give it its actual nsme. I am assuming people are finding it difficult to remember SARS cov-2 which causes covid 19. Using innacurate terminology just makes the user look dim and uninformed.

Spanish flu is a brilliant example of misleading naming.

Is there any particular reason you prefer to cali it "Chinese flu" rather than the actual name?

The name does not matter unless you work in a lab. Virtue signaling make someone look like a proper d%^$k.

BTW the flu and covid 19 look almost identical I am sure none of us here could tell the difference looking at a picture.

I preferr Kung flu. Why? Because we all have to do a bit of Kung flu fighting.

Read the government websites instead of forums, social media and MSM.

I don't think the coronavirus should have much affect our little planes. Don't they help maintain social distancing?

But, have anybody been watching Flightradar? I'm in South Tasmania where we only hear jets when they are bombing fires. Just now a jet overflow - it is a Qatar 777 going from Auckland to Doha - not sure why it came so far south. Still plenty of jets in the air in spite of all the gloom about routes being closed.

It was probably chasing the jetstream for a faster, cheaper sector or was just admiring the beauty of the “Apple Isle”

Bugger the politics. I just want to go for a fly. My plane has sat since November except for quick return from maintenance base to storage due to getting sick on a cruise, then fires, then storms, now a bloody virus. It sucks. When I did go to change the oil after 3.5hrs use on calender time, the bloody brakes decided to fail on one side so I couldn’t fly it then. After close to 6 months with bugger all time in the air, do I need a check ride for my own piece of mind or do I trust myself to get it right.

if I can fix the brakes I might just give it a go and try to forget about all the stuff going wrong, on the ground.

So what is "supposition" here?

I have not seen any epidemiological evidence of this but perhaps you can point me in the direction of some evidence...

An apparent outlier...

Machtuk if you get covid19 and die will you be singing the same song. If more than 20% of the population have a similar mindset it could happen.

And what does it say about private flying? I cannot figure it out.

Absolutely nothing as long as you abide by the the conditions mentioned.

Flying by yourself is a perfect activity for this occasion, even better if it’s your own aircraft.

The aircraft I work on at the moment are now required to have the cockpit disinfected after every flight between crew changes.

So what are the complication and fatality statistics? In order for you to declare this an outlier you must surely be al over the statistics. Whilst most yoing people will not be badly affected it us about protecting others, your older family members perhaps? Just as important is protecting the health system.

Well, I thought the thread title described what the subject matter is.....?....although, around here threads do wander a bit..?

Re Spanish Flu:

Via YouTube. “The History Guy” channel is on my weekly listen list. Apart from much aviation related history he has also touched on subjects such as “History of the 1918 Influenza Pandemic” and a video on “The Australian Slouch Hat”..?

PMcC Have a look at what Jenny Macklin (Victorian Minister for Health) said this morning, and then have a look at the six or eight categories of essential.

It's not that hard to understand.

I agree you are owed death with that attitude. But what about those you infect due to your arrogance?
