Flying Binghi Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 ....go after the people who aren't getting the message. Heh, here’s yer theme song...? .
turboplanner Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 I think the dual approach is fine, I just wish they had listened and acted sooner. Commentators like Bolt and Jones are positively dangerous IMHO. With a full lockdown, in an instant you are telling Australians not to venture outside their doors, wait for food to be delivered, and we didn'y have the capacity to deliver to 25 million people. People would have just gone out and bought their food. The staggered approach was like herding cats, but all but a few percent are in a much safer place than if we'd gone cold turkey. The staggered approach kept kids in school during the time when the virus was fanning out from overseas visitors, and allowed, I think about 300,000 of the workforce to be temporarily re-employed to help with servicing the large group of people now in the homes. Someone will eventually write a book about this crisis and we'll all know how soon they started working on it, but my guess is December/January for how they were going to manage it. Don't forget it was always the Chief Medical Officers deciding the strategy and calling the shots. https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/state-of-emergency-declared-in-victoria-over-covid-19/

Foreign Correspondent has been looking at how Singapore managed it so well without a massive shutdown. Planned early, had adequate PPE and medical supplies on hand and people have high confidence in Government. Possum1 Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 I wonder how many recreational flyers ordered their peanuts as a result of my earlier post and ensuing discussion? The people at the Peanut Van are very pleased with the huge volume of orders that they processed yesterday(Monday) from their online and phone orders over the weekend. See photos here: of the orders stacked on their front counter waiting for Australia Post pickup
Flying Binghi Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 Years ago when I got some bushwheels outa the US they’d turn up with a stack of peanuts packed in the tyre centre hole..?. New owners stopped the practice..? .
onetrack Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 I got some freight from a forum buddy in California, who grew garlic for a living. He chucked a heap of his finest garlic into my freight parcel. Customs went ballistic, I thought I was going to be charged for attempting to import it - when I didn't even know he was throwing it in the box! He had no idea garlic was a banned import into Australia ("vegetable matter"), and was apologetic. Customs relented, repacked my goods into another box, and forwarded them to me, and burnt the original box and the garlic.
NT5224 Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 So Im theoretically locked down... Here in the Territory, our government have defined a number of 'designated areas' subject to movement (border) restrictions. Crossing the boundary of a designated area, you now have to quarantine 14 days. The theory is sound, we need to help protect our vulnerable local communities, so shutting down large parts of the country to random travelers makes sense. We've now got police and military road blocks established on many major routes into designated areas. But the practice is rather sketchy. I've just had the boundary of a designated area drawn straight across my property. If I drive down to my front gate, on return I've now got to quarantine myself 14 days . On the upside, at least the airstrip is on the same side of the boundary as my house, so if somebody seriously wanted to enforce this, I could just fly in and out of home. What bizarre times we're all living through? Best to all Alan 2
Flying Binghi Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 What bizarre times we're all living through? Chinese curse - “May you live in interesting times”.....? .
jackc Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 The Prime Minister himself covered that yesterday. There's no room for interpretation; if you think about it it is specifically to save lives. A Chinese Richmond Cafe owner found out the hard way yesterday with a $9,900 fine. An Assistant Commissioner of Victoria Police just said about an hour and a half ago: "Unless you've been living under a rock or you are an idiot, you know the restrictions. Maybe the Queensland Premier knows Toowoomba better than we do because this morning she explained how the Attorney General had been tasked to reorganise the Justice Dept staff to work with Health to go after the people who aren't getting the message. I would suggest anyone who runs foul of these disorganised laws, test it in a Court Of Law. I know I sure will IF I get done for anything. The only way I can catch the virus, is from a passing Wallaby:-) 1

jackc Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 The Queensland fine is pretty hefty - $13,300.00 For what I would get done for, would be very questionable under the law, so not worried. No compromise to anyone’s health or my own. They can write me a ticket and I will see ‘em in court:-)

When questioned you need to give a valid reason and that validity could be open to question, hence taking it to court. Maybe I won’t even get pulled up anyway, but I am ready for it:-) 1
M61A1 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 The Queensland fine is pretty hefty - $13,300.00 Clear as mud... I understand how one calculates the $13300, but the QLD govt website gives different fines in different paragraphs. https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/government-actions/gatherings Home confinement/Indoor/ outdoor gatherings/travel: Not following any of these regulations without reasonable excuse is a breach of the Public Health Act 2005 and you may be fined up to $1,330 for individuals and $6,670 for corporations. Accommodation Providers: If the person does not comply with the public health directions, penalties will apply: $13,345 for individuals and $66,672.50 for corporations. It is possible the enforcement officer can issue on the spot tickets of $1,334.50 or $6,672.50 for corporations. Backpackers and such: If you do not comply with the public health directions, penalties will apply: $13,345 for individuals and $66,672.50 for corporations. It is possible the enforcement officer can issue on the spot tickets of $1,334.50 or $6,672.50 for corporations.

The Chief health Officer has Powers not available to the politicians on a daily basis, and they also disappear very quickly, in one case I noted, 7 days, and there was an Act passed for the characteristics of Covid-19 which extended some of the validity periods, I think to 90 days, but then the Powers expire and a new period declared. However, while the Direction is valid and she has to do the equivalent of herding cats and instant lawyers she can pretty much tune the penalties until the recalcitrants determinedlt march after the obedient. Looks like Queensland are putting an effort into making thye backpackers separate. Last week in NSW the Bondi group were still sitting in the same courtyard almost on each others'laps.
M61A1 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Looks like Queensland are putting an effort into making thye backpackers separate. Yep, Apparently while workers are out of jobs by the thousands, they are advertising that there is still plenty of work for backpackers and special visas available. Go figure. They say it's OK to ride a motorcycle as exercise, you say we can't fly a plane for the same, they say it's OK for groups of backpackers to travel between communities is OK, but not for anyone else. I would have thought that anyone like backpackers that have been travelling are likely to be mixing with others that have been travelling (like your Bondi group) and as such are most likely to be carrying infection fro place to place. People respect the law more when it shows some common sense and consistency. 1

Refer to the allowed actions (without co-joining one with another. 3. Let the State Health officers have the worry of which powers to use for what.

Methusala Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Meanwhile, one of the lawmakers in CHIEF, the honorable (haw, haw , haw) treasurer Lunatic in Chief, forgets himself in presence of a camera (you just can't make this stuff up!) and attempts to shake hands with Albo??? And, not surprisingly, all the loyal media choose to feature the same idiot elbow bumping with Scummo. Australia you're standing in it. 2 1

Keenaviator Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 I think both. Our airport is moribund, with REX making its' last few flights in before it plans to close on 6th. Both flying schools have closed down. A few local private owners have been up to keep the oil circulating, but we had a couple 'new' aircraft in over the weekend. Actually the hangar is a refuge for me atm : get to plant some kikuyu, clean up inside, wash aircraft, and keep out of my brides hair for a few hours. I don't see any risk to the quarantine principle by doing a local flight. I think the authorities are starting to verge on censorship of the 1st order when they begin to draw lines between 'essential' or 'recreational'. Anyway, keep your sense of humour everyone - we are going to need to. happy days, Same here regarding the refuge and cleaning up of my hangar. Also a short flight to circulate the oil and maintain skills. 2
SplitS Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 A lot of airports are owned by the fed's as is the airspace. The State governments can control you to the airport gate's after that it's up to the fed's and there is no restriction (on airspace) in place.

Maybe I won’t even get pulled up anyway, but I am ready for it:-) Yesterday and today, I broke the lockdown laws......I drove to my other property from my residence, the reason was to start making firebreaks with my bulldozer as we will have a massive fire risk within a month, when it cools off I will be back at it again tonight. Was my reason good enough? NO, as I am not allowed to my other property for ANY reason. Too bad, care factor zero on my part. On my way there, I stop and talk to our local Rural Brigade Fire Warden (another no no). He says, hope we don’t get any fires, only allowed 2 persons to a fire truck, no more. So, IF we get a bushfire......it’s tough luck for getting fire crews, and people wonder WHY I jack up on these silly rules. Well for Aviation content, one of those fire breaks is going to be BIG:-). We get BIG fires dontcha know:-). It’s secondary use will be my airstrip WAHOO:-)) 1
