red750 Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Tigerair has dismissed 220 pilots as a result of the downturn in traffic caused by Covid-19 lockdowns.
spacesailor Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Here,s hoping my nephew at EasyJet keeps his position, : left seat that is. spacesailor
derekliston Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 So much for the Worldwide shortage of commercial pilots! 1
old man emu Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Dismissed, or stood down? There's a big difference. How does a 747 driver live on $1500 per fortnight?
onetrack Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 They've been made redundant. That's dismissal by anyones measure. This is just the start of the "downsizing" of airlines. The airline operators are shrinking their businesses to probably less than 20% of their "pre-virus" size. A sizeable number of those pilots will never fly commercially again. Commercial Pilot training will effectively cease as an occupation for the next couple of years, at least.
old man emu Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Jeezuz! Now we'll have a mob of partially qualified Chinese CPL students screaming for asylum and running around out of work and out of money. 1
facthunter Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Maybe they can cook? I prefer Thai. Pilots must be versatile. You never know where your next meal is coming from .Nev
onetrack Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 As they say, you have to practice and study for your next job - "Would you like fries with that?"
