andrew222 Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Hi. If your interested in Aviation museums there's a couple of incredibly detailed and free 360 degree virtual tours of the Darwin Aviation Museum, NT and also the Perth Aviation Museum, WA in Australia. Take a good look around a B52, Lancaster, Catalina, Dakota C47, Avro Anson, B-25 Mitchell Bomber , Wessex helicopter, COBRA AH-IG and many other aircraft and displays. There's also the B-24 J Liberator 'Milady' Wreck Site in Cox Peninsula, NT that you can explore without the humidity. Very little chance of international visitors stopping by these locations in person this year and perhaps even next year so a bit of support via online visitors will go a long way and you only need to register with your name and email address to access the tours. vuseum.com alt=PdaS3WO.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/PdaS3WO.jpg[/img] Thanks, Andrew 4
old man emu Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Vale Australian Aviation Museum, Bankstown. When I was at Bankstown Airport last week, I noticed that the Australian Aviation Museum was gone. No planes. No buildings. Nothing but a redevelopment construction site. Also gone are the old Chieftain Aviation building and the other buildings at the corner of Tower Road and Starkie Drive. You can't let aviation history and nostalgia stand in the way of non-aviation commercial development. 1
facthunter Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 YOU can steal airports and put supermarkets and car sales on them but the reverse will never happen. Marvelous what a few shekels slipped quietly into pockets will achieve , but it's NOT for the Common Good It's called CORRUPTION and we're drowning in it. Nev 2
red750 Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 Also gone are the old Chieftain Aviation building My old flying school when I lived in Sydney 1974-78. Had the Sea Venom on a post out the front.
old man emu Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 The smell of the Western Red Cedar in the place used to make me ill. Great when you get air sick as well.

Also the old Schofields Building and Chieftain Buildings have been Bulldozed! I think the Whitworth Aviation Office seems to be deserted.
willedoo Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 That's sad. It's a tough gig to keep any air museum sustainable without a lot of government support. Most are high costs, low earnings.

I'm pretty sure that where the Hungry Jack's is ,used to be where the joy flight were back in the 50's. Bernie .
old man emu Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 No, HJ's, Aldi KFC and BP were off the fenced airport boundary. Your joy flight site would have been at the southern end of the north-south runway that the current lease-holders closed so they could commercialise the land on the northern boundary. The corner of the airport near Milperra Road was a swamp which became a dumping ground. I'd hate, as a tenant, to have to suffer the consequences of a soil pollution test in that area.
Flightrite Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 It's all just a nail in GA's coffin? In the not too distant future GA at most levels will all but be gone, relegated to out of the way back country strips for the few?

I think I'm correct I used to take joyflights there... also from memory no runways just as the windsock dictated.. also was a farmer's Market on the corner. With the Milperra bridge opposite. I grew up there. Bernie .
