red750 Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Report on tonight's news that a light plane with a 19- registration has crashed in Gippsland with two survivors, although one is in a critical but stable condition. The video showed the plane nose down and vertical amongst large trees. Looked like a RV from what I could see. 1
rhtrudder Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Don’t think a 19 rego can be a RV and a two seater
pylon500 Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) Don’t think a 19 rego can be a RV and a two seater Don't the RV-12's fit in? (update) Looks like a Zenith. Edited June 13, 2020 by pylon500 2
biggles Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 RV12 is 19 reg.and 2 seater. Not saying that is the case here....Bob (sorry P500, we posted at same time )
Kyle Communications Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 19-8242 its not on the RAA search at the moment...looks like maybe a Zenith 601 or similar oh its a RV12?...maybe so
Flightrite Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Phew they where lucky! Speedy recover guys ? Trres probably saved them!
Kyle Communications Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 I just redid that search again..this time it worked...Zenith 601HD
Kyle Communications Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Yep hung up in the tree....lucky to survive that
pylon500 Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Can't remember if it was Chuck Yeager or Bob Hoover said, "Find the softest thing around, and crash into that." 2
pmccarthy Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Very misty in central Vic today, I don’t know about Gippsland. Hope they come good.
Jabiru7252 Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 70 yo pilot + teenage passenger I think. I do wonder what it was like weather wise. 1
BRL Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Excellent day weather wise engine reported to be smoking before impact approx 3 mile short of the runway.
Kyle Communications Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 I wonder what sort of engine..its a reasonably new rego
Flightrite Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Suby donk I hear, smoke in the cockpit suggested?
onetrack Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Wow, those pair are both lucky to be still alive. I hate to think what it's going to cost to get the wreckage out of there, and I doubt whether that plane will ever fly again.
Student Pilot Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Looks to be some clear country just behind, points to loss of control.
Keenaviator Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Perhaps he was in control and aiming to land in that clear country but didn’t quite make it. The plane is relatively intact. If it were out of control it could have been in a million pieces. I’m calling well done. 7 1
Thruster88 Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 The Yarrum valley is clear open farmland with a few patches of trees. 1
onetrack Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 We don't know what happened. If there was smoke in the cabin, he may have had vision problems as well as breathing difficulties. That's one of the worst scenarios, that would stop you from carrying out a lot of tasks effectively. 3 2
Love to fly Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Looks to be some clear country just behind, points to loss of control. Seriously? 1
turboplanner Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 We don't know what happened. If there was smoke in the cabin, he may have had vision problems as well as breathing difficulties. That's one of the worst scenarios, that would stop you from carrying out a lot of tasks effectively. There's a small tree plantation to the right of the Airfield sign, and a boundary plantation running N-S to the left of it, otherwise he's gine inj a long way out.
alf jessup Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 No one knows how one will react in a pressure situation, smoke in the cockpit or from the engine may have well had him direct tracking back to the big safe strip of dirt with tunnel vision and not aware of his surroundings or what he was going to be flying over to get there. Everyone handle pressure differently. End of the day it is what it is, they are both alive at this stage and that is all that matters. I fly in and out of Yarram often, plenty of open spaces also around the area but we do not know his situation at the time. Speedy recovery pilot and pax. 4 1
Jabiru7252 Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Ten news at five reports teenage pilot and 70 yo grand father involved in the incident. Apparently the controls went 'haywire'.
