planedriver
Not politically correct, Planey, What about the girls? May be not politically correct OK. However, I did convince a young mum family member to take a TIF back early this year. She and her partner have much deeper pockets than myself, so that was a relief to my wallet. She too, reckoned it was one of the best experiences she had ever had, and her Facebook photo's said it all.
spacesailor
We men ( males of all types ) have to remember that Chatting-up the other sex can be detrimental to our health and financial well-being, doent take many to make like a Johny Dep scenerio. What defence, if a female accuses you of inapropiat behavior while up in the air. spacesailor
aro
What does the chart look like over a longer timeframe e.g. 1 year? It looks more like there was a peak around March-April then back to normal (or even a bit above) rather than a decline.

Plenty of women have hitched up with a bloke who turns out to be a violent grub. Some have taken their kids overseas, never to be seen again. Admin
Unfortunately only the Xenforo software has the numbers stored and can create the chart and as we were using IPS software prior to the start of the graph I don't have those figures
spacesailor
TRUE I had that problem with my grandson, neither the federal police nor the state police could find him, so I told the partner,s car hire-purchase loan people, who took two days to find him and hand the carloan bill, plus extra,s to him, cash only, They told us and we told the feds, who still couldn,t do anything ( in NewZealand ),even their court, wouldn,t hear the case as He was Maori. The Maori court though saw that he had broken many laws, their own included. So my daughter gained full custody and reimbursement for their flights. spacesailor
Nobody
My personal experience is I put a post up, a select few pick it to bits and just come out with BS comments. Makes me not want to visit or post. I visit maybe a dozen times a year when bored or not building my planes. I stay in touch with a select few on Facebook. The ones I enjoy socialising with. Exactly.... I no longer post much on this site, though i do check in to see if anything interesting is happening. Most threads end up with people either whinging or prattling on about irrelevant and off topic stuff. Look at the thread the other day about the buy flying from Melbourne to Port Macquarie, rather than actually discussing flying it soon became a discussion about ICAO acronyms and other drivel. Do you think that people will keep posting if that happens again and again? Even this thread about the future of the website has become a discussion about relationships and the family courts... 1

Do you think that people will keep posting if that happens again and again? Even this thread about the future of the website has become a discussion about relationships and the family courts... There's always the option of moving on to something you are interested in. In the past some site owners had little icons of a teacher with his finger out or a hammer or handgun with "BACK TO TOPIC! and used them relentlessly. Just about all those sites have disappeared in favour of site which let a discussion flow freely. In the thread you are referring to, firstly I asked myself why someone would be going on social media to ask about a routine cross country flight, then I saw the ICAO codes and lost interest and moved on to something else. The first peprson you are complaining about gave his reason - he doesn't fly, yet he is a major contributor of meticulous content on this site, so I don't think it was very fair. I have an ERSA so it doesn't take long to find an airfield, but the thread lost me, and on a Recreational Aviation site such as this I suspect less than 5% would be accumulating enough hours per year to be current enough to remember all the ICAO codes for Australia, so why not just type the airfield names? 3

Old Koreelah
Which is what is happening to the site, people are moving on hence the dwindling numbers.... Ian might own this site and he's put a huge effort into it. He has set up sections for almost every interest and topic. But... it's only as good WE the members make it. 1 1
M61A1
Not politically correct, Planey, What about the girls? The harsh reality is that most of them are just not interested. The quota crowd hate to acknowledge this, but it's the reality. The more choice people have the greater the differences between the sexes.
bushcaddy105
I will read new posts every few days, but refrain from posting unless I have something meaningful to contribute. I have, over the years, gained (and I hope offered) much useful information from the forums (or fora?). I have also been rather peeved by speculation, nitpicking and blatant aggression in posts. I'm still in awe of what Ian has achieved on our behalf despite unfounded criticism at times, and sincerely thank him for his undying efforts. Please keep up your support to keep our contact alive. 4
red750
I posted in a forum on another international aviation website three days ago, reporting a problem (which has been there for a long time). On the home page, there is a list of the last half dozen forum posts. My post is still on top of the list, (most recent), the post has been viewed 52 times in that period, and there are no replies. The sixth most recent post was dated 27/6/2020. This site does OK. Edited July 18, 2020 by red750
Geoff_H
I left Facebook after criticism from my left wing family of my right wing views. Total intolerance and criticism. Why be criticized. I look to this site to exchange information about mother nature and our battle with her to fly. I need to build cowlings, the thread was just what I wanted. But I am not good with writing, a little Asperger's, I got lost in the words. I am guessing many of the people interested in this website maybe similar to me. I would like to see pictures of some of the ideas and methods. Open discussion on all aspects of aircraft big and tiny. Of all types of ways of doing things. An open forum to exchange ideas freely and without fear of being criticized for anything. I think that the ability to ask a How do I question would attract persons like myself. There seems to be a lot of us if the what else do you do thread is any indication. When I do a google search on an aircraft technical issue I find it surprising how many times I get refered to this site of some years ago. 3

Many of us are on the Aspergers Spectrum, which is not necessarily a disability. We can be very good at some things, not so much at others. Bruce Tuncks
Ian, this is the best site on the net and you are worrying too much. I too don't like being belittled but the offender makes lots of good points which sometimes I need to hear, so I certainl don't want him to stop or change. Anyway, there is an ignore feature which I have never used. Lately there have been some new contributors and this is good to see. 1
Butch
I agree totally Bruce! There are forum members I agree with on one subject but totally disagree with on another subject. Strong debate is good as you see both sides of the argument and can learn from others experience. It's just a shame some get a little to personal at times. Geoff_H
I am a habitual user of this site. Can I get notified on my android of new posts? I would like to see blogs of what people are doing! Be it Recreational aircraft, GA Aircraft, regular public transport, model in fact anything that is above ground and uses air to support it, even hovercraft. All can be recreation of some sort. I would also love to see pics of cars being restored, maybe not aircraft but still of interest. I have not blogged my aircraft, I will, but I get all sorts of agro from she who must be obeyed. skydog
I do not see any "advertising or promotion" of this site anywhere else where I connect to aviation whether it be on FB and the very many aviation sites on it, or any publications, online of offline aircraft for sale, sport commercial or recreational. Most of this costs nothing just time to put a post up on FB or an cheap ad in a publication. People do not know about the site or confuse it with RAAUS. (that could work both ways potentially) It would be interesting to know what the drop out rate is soon after joining Rec Flying as I agree with other posters that a few frequent posters seem to make very strong opinions on a wide variety of posts that are dogmatic, and insensitive which pisses posters of and just makes one say why bother. Just my opinion
red750
The site I referred to in post #39 is one of the largest repositories of aviation photos. The top photographer has over 111,000 photos, the second highest has over 76,000. I have over 1,100 photos, and I am no. 161 on the list.

eightyknots
☆ There are an avid bunch of flyers here in New Zealand and they do not all fly Avids. Many of them would probably love to be part of Recreational Flying ...if only they knew about the site. About one third of the New Zealand aircraft on the CAA's aircraft register are "microlights" ... which are sub-600 kg aircraft similar to RA-Aus planes. If you add other recreational aircraft (eg GA and LSA aeroplanes) it may well be over half. Is it possible to promote this site more in New Zealand in order to increase interest? Some of those who were flying are now grappling with saving their business from extinction. The lockdown (and restrictions on flying) has diminished interest but I believe it will only be temporary. I started a thread about E-props recently and this has already been viewed many times and responded to by a number of posters. There is certainly interest out there! Please do not be overly concerned, Ian. Post-COVID 19, we trust, things will get back to normal and recreational flyers will pick up where they left off in March 2020. 2
