From the Nine News report on the web:

 

The helicopter is believed to have hit power lines before crashing in Steam Plains, in the western Riverina.

The male pilot is believed to be trapped inside the helicopter.

 

Ambulances and police are on scene.

Steam Plains is one of the biggest sheep farms in the state, located between Hay and Deniliquin.

The male pilot was believed be trapped in the helicopter near Conargo, about 167 kilometres from the town of Griffith.

He has since been removed and is undergoing an assessment. His condition is not yet known.

 

Live wires and a fuel spill are making the job more difficult.

 

Officers were called to the property shortly after 11am on Friday, following reports of a helicopter crash.

 

Three ambulance crews, a hazmat team and two fire crews are on the scene.

 

ABC web report adds:

 

Ambulance NSW said paramedics were treating the man and that he was in a critical condition.

A witness at the scene told NCA NewsWire emergency services had managed to extract the pilot, believed to be from Griffith, from the chopper, but it was not known whether he would survive the crash.

 

“He‘s not in a great condition,” the man said. “He’s in and out of consciousness... things are going as well as can be expected.”

 

The helicopter is an agricultural aircraft.

The pilots condition has been down graded from Critical to Serious which is good news but not so good as his injuries are mainly to the head.
