Here are a couple of websites I use when looking up aircraft info. You quite possibly know about them already, but there may be some who don't. The first is based on Sydneys runway 16 right, and it's called 16right.com. The home page features fantastic photos of recent visiting aircraft to Sydney.

Click on Registers in the top menu and you can select from this list of national registries.

If you select Australia, you can search by registration number (VH- only) which gives full details of the searched aircraft.

Enter the ICAO type code (eg A320) in the Type box and you get a list of all the VH- aircraft of that type code.

There is also an ADS-B option.

The other website is airframes.org. You have to register to search, it's free, and you can search a world rego number. It will return the aircraft type if the register is on the web. So if you come across a photo of aFrench or Germany aircraft you cannot identify, chances are this site will identify it for you.
