Lozzer Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 I'm aware of some lightweight GA models being registered with RAA such as Piper Colts. Would there be any interest in a Cesna 150 for this? Their empty weight is around 450kg.
Blueadventures Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 May be 3 on raa (150’s). There were 4 from what I was told and about 3 years ago a raa one sold from here and was being put back in GA so became a 2 seater again.
Downunder Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 There were some light GA aircraft put on the RAA register years ago when there was not much scrutiny about weights. However I doubt it could be done these days under the mtow limit of 600kg. There is talk of raising the max RAA weight to around 760kg, but it may be a long wait.
Lozzer Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 Thanks. A mate had Piper Colt which he registered with RAA. They are only slightly lighter than the 150 and weight can be reduced further to a degree. Definitely viable as a solo machine. Would SIDS apply to an old 150 on the RAA register?
Thruster88 Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Thanks. Would SIDS apply to an old 150 on the RAA register? Unfortunately yes, SIDS will still apply to the C150 if they ever get into RAAus. There will be no change to the current maintenance requirements for over 600kg. LAME required and all the SIDS, AD's, MSB's etc. 1

Yes, and if 760kG gets in and configured above 600kG (two persons) then LAME maintained required.
Yenn Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 My Corby is usually GA rego. No problems and no need for LAME to do the maintenance.
flyunder Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Yes, and if 760kG gets in and configured above 600kG (two persons) then LAME maintained required. And up goes the rego too i bet
Lozzer Posted September 9, 2020 Author Posted September 9, 2020 It looks like this old 150 is worth nothing more than scrap then sadly!
facthunter Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 It would be easy to spend $45K or more on it, without doing anything to the motor or cosmetics.. It may be worth doing if you had a good reason and thoroughly assessed it BEFORE starting anything. Once you start you can spend good money to try to extricate yourself from a situation you should never have commenced. There's Magneto's (Time)and carburetter ADs as well as corrosion and the legislated inspections. What's the TTIS and engine history?. I don't mind the aeroplane but it's a bit cramped for two of todays people width wise.. Nev 1
