waraton Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 In the process of obtaining your pilot certificate, pre solo and radio exams are e done before first solo. Air legislation BAK and human factors are completed during training. To support the process outside the formal training schools are practice exams available for all subjects and where would I get some. Can exams be sat outside a school.

Can exams be sat outside a school I'm unaware of any such publication as a set of ''practice' exams for RAAus. Perhaps there are some such questions at the end of the chapter in the Bob Tait series but I don't have a current set of them to check. Why don't you ask him? I'm sure there are none, or at best a few, in the Jim Davis PPL book. These early days ín-house' exams are not particularly onerous, and provided you keep your ears open, you'll pickup on stuff during your early flights which will strengthen your book learning. Ask your instructor to read out a couple of questions and see if you understand what is being sought. Many students freakout at the sight of multiple choice questions, but if you stay calm and read the question very carefully - then usually the wrong/stupid/impossible answers stand out. Exams must be sat under flying school supervision. Good luck.

Sometimes it easier to pick out the wrong answers leaving the answer "that must be right"....lol. 1
APenNameAndThatA Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 If all else fails, the longest answer is most likely to be the correct one. 1

Speedsta Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I did a few years ago. Their website seems a lot more polished now. You can practice the exams as many times as you need. 1 1
RFguy Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 IMO The RA exam question bank is fully of ambiguous answers. IE two answers are correct but the system is only going to accept one of them. A bit of luck plays into this. I decided early on that I would just not care about those 'bad' question-answer sets and just ensure I got all the others right, so I could just blow a few off and not worry. 1

Bosi72 Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I use both BT and PPE. BT has online forum which is ok, but found PPE Facebook group more responsive. So far so good. Regarding exams, aspeq.com is testing provider for Casa where you can do exams outside of school, but not sure about RAA process.
waraton Posted December 3, 2020 Author Posted December 3, 2020 Hi Bosi I may have missed something but who is BT? 1
Bosi72 Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) Hi Waraton It is Bob Tait. I found his books written in language easy to understand, but again there may be other books from other authors that I'm not aware of. https://bobtait.com.au/raa-products-page Edited December 3, 2020 by Bosi72 2

Moneybox Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I sat and passed my first couple of tests yesterday, Radio and Air Law. I have no idea how many tests are required but I hope not too many because academia is not one of my strong points. 1 1 1
facthunter Posted October 6 Posted October 6 When you are in the AIR and you are the one doing it, it pays to know what's happening and WHY. Don't skip on your basic knowledge. Nev 3

The next 2 are Air Legislation (wider scope) and BAK. Human Performance now has a few questions in most of the exams. Edited October 6 by BurnieM 1 2
Moneybox Posted October 15 Posted October 15 I'm on my way home tonight disappointed that I never got the chance to go solo. I had a mix of reasonably good weather along with a lot of bad. My goal was to come home with my RPC but I never got near it. The first day back after five months off was a mix of good and not so good but was better than I expected. My radio work was much improved so I sat the theory test and passed that. I still couldn't fly each day so sat the Air Law theory and got that out of the way as well. I started circuits last week with 12 and 15kt cross winds and it was messy so packed it in early. Friday was a little better with a 8 to 12kt cross wind and even though I got some good landings in he didn't want me going solo in it. Monday was crappy again (yellow arrow). I was booked in for 9:00am but left it until later in the day hoping for the wind to align with one of the runways. It didn't so he asked if I wanted to practice some steep turns. I jumped at the idea, I just wanted to get some useful time in the air. We spent some time on 45° turns, Spiral decents and Graveyard spiral recovery. What a blast, it turned a shitty day into an experience to remember. It was all over way too soon and we were back on the ground looking forward to the promised better weather on Tuesday. Well that was today. I was booked in for 11:00am and 2:00pm but it never happened. As you can se by the centre of the graph the wind had backed off so it was my day to go solo but my instructor called in sick. Tomorrow and Thursday are looking pretty bad so I called it quits and went shopping. Now loaded with the next couple of months supplies I'm on the road and should be home by early afternoon tomorrow. 😒 1
Bosi72 Posted October 15 Posted October 15 All schools have minimum hours, minimum wind/crosswind, before sending a student on a first solo. Unfortunately we can't control the weather, however you can control the bookings. If the winds are problem, I would rather practice xwind landings than steep turns. I suggest book in the early mornings at first light, or late afternoons before sunset when the winds are calm. Talk to your instructor and make a plan. ps: you can register account on willyweather and change the unit settings to knots, feet, C etc.. 1 1
