Aviataion Classifieds listed 30-40 aircraft just a couple of years ago. It is down to 13 today on a steady trend. It will be gone entirely within months if this trend continues.

People not upgrading aircraft due to current economic situations in which they see the  future being questionable. 
Some people are keeping their existing aircraft, but adding goodies to it.  Those that want to sell are listing for a higher price with the attitude they will sell, but not worried if they don’t.

I think @jackc is on point. I've tried to buy the same Comanche - twice - and each time the buyer has pulled it from sale after it being listed for a few days. I missed out on a beautiful Comanche -260C by a weekend last month after the KRviatrix dilly-dallied confirming the $$ would work out, so now to get an equivalent plane to that -C model will likely cost another $50K. Wimmen! 😛

 

I'm thinking about penning a letter to every Comanche owner on register asking if they want to sell. I CBF importing one from the US with all the extra hassle!

There was a similar discussion a few motnhs back, and there was some speculation people would start selling their "toys" (I use that word very loosely) as the effects of the COVID economic contraction took hold.

As has happeened before, e.g. GFC.

It doesn't appear to be taking hold.

Yes....And no...The Comanche I missed out on was priced very reasonably for what it was - probably why it went in less than a week which surprised even me. The other one I've looked at, is significantly overpriced for what it is. The seller paid $92,500 a year ago, installed a very basic GPS in it, and now wants $105-110K for it - and from what I can tell, it hasn't had the gear SB done on it, which if it fails, is mega $$ (the FAA actually made it an AD, CAsA didn't).

Well I have had very little interest in my Zephyr, as a rebuild project. A great opportunity to get a truly excellent performing aircraft, at a knock down price ( parts cost). Just requires a bit of labour & some parts to put her back in the air. - So from my perspective the buyers aren't out there.

I wonder if some of our discussion on aircraft ownership, especially when the question is posed by a student pilot, has put the wind up a lot of buyers.

Apart from the elite rich, most people have taken a knock, financially, from the COVID-19 virus economic effects, in 2020. Property values are generally down, and many businesses have had a decline in sales and values somewhat.

 

Add to that, the "China effect" on business confidence as China rages around like a bull in a china shop, hitting out at many formerly lucrative Chinese imports from Australia.

 

As a result, consumer confidence has sagged somewhat, with a degree of uncertainty as to what 2021 will bring. In times like this, many people hold off on big-ticket "recreational" purchases.

 

When I'm buying, I find people who are eager to sell - otherwise you run into sellers who ask a stupid price and who don't really care whether they sell the item or not.

 

I love deceased estate offerings, people just want to get rid of items they have no interest in, because they belonged to someone else.

Hi Skip to my view your aircraft advert has too many negatives. For example no price, need to attend at The Oaks, no recent pictures therefore not able to view current damaged areas, you being an agent the question why you don’t repair and sell as a going concern ( especially as listed as being a smallish repair required) will be there or should be there.  There can always be hidden surprises in composite stress damage that is fractured between the layers from the visible damage edges and difficult to see without specialist knowledge. Recommend consider revising the content of the advertisement. Cheers

That's possible, but I've been one person who has bought damaged product at an attractive price and rebuilt it to my satisfaction over the years.

 

An equally valid reason is Covid-19 in various forms, with sellers being lethargic, buyers not wanting to travel in case of lock down etc.

Thanks Blue - too old, no time, family (grandchildren) object to devoting so much time to rebuild - in process of purchasing a flying replacement. 

 

Could put a price on it BUT rather sell to a keen handy person who will rebuild/fly again, at the right price (basically parts cost).

 

No one in their right mind would purchase a fly away aircraft sight unseen, and this one wont fly until a bit of love/labour/parts are applied,  so rather than have a lot of "tyre kickers" wasting my time - figure a serious purchaser (trusted agent) will want to see first hand befor making an offer. Happy to send photos to serious enquirers.

 

This is a wood/fabric wing (not artificial composite) - the damage you see is largely what is there is.  Damage incurred at very low (energy) landing speed, into dirt (energy absorbing) at an angle (energy dissipating) so although undercarriage damaged  - was not torn off fuselage.

 

I have generated a parts list - Purchaser can reduce/increase purchase parts list as ability/desire to do own repairs or purchase off the shelf (deeper pockets) is desired.

 

I would  like to see this aircraft fly again - so will negotiate price accordingly

Here in Adelaide property prices are booming. There's lots of building happening: tradesmen are impossible to find. There are still lots of people with money, and what are they going to do with it? Stockmarket? Doubtful. Put it in the bank? No way with virtually 0.00% interest rates. So that leaves real estate. BUT, with so much uncertainty (will everything collapse next year?), less people are spending big on discretionary items like planes, so the market is shrinking. My $0.02 worth.

I bought my plane in March ‘20 realising that the pandemic could cause me problems sourcing one out of state in the future,

I just sucked it up facing financial uncertainty as well.  It’ was a case of make a quick decision in case I missed out.

Took  investment money out to do it, realising I don’t have a stack of life left on this earth.......it was now or never.

Sometimes you just have to make a decision and run with it........the future is never guaranteed.

Aeroplanes were always a risky investment. If you don't have work for them they can be an extra burden. Look at the A-380s at Alice Springs .  What is their real value?. Like boats that cost to have moored some are just left to rot, an aeroplane has costs whether it's used or not. Not that optimistic is it but I think it's reality.  I've owned 3  and that's enough for me. (I hope)...Nev

Well it has worsened.

As of a few minutes ago, down to 10 ads, including one hangar for sale, and one trike.

So only 8 aircraft.

so sad, been looking fir two years.

Maybe they're still selling 😃 then.What are you looking for? For me personally,if i'm looking out for something i put out a wanted ad,

always seems to work.

What am I looking for? Something i can fit into for starters....exclude Aeropup, CH200, side hinged canopy Zenair 601.

For that reason, ideally something in W.A. that I can see and touch.....and see if I fit relating to height and lack of flexibility.

There is a Brumby on the market, a bit over my budget, but it is a potential fit, except getting back to W.A. would likely blow the budget.

 

Not after any of the Jabirus with the fuel tank in the cockpit. (Yes I know that crashing is never a good career move, but that layout just does not tickle my fancy)

 

I have had an email sent to all members of one local club, asking if anyone has an under used aircraft they want to move, with zero response.

 

Unless I win Lotto, (fat chance) I will only buy 1 aircraft in my life, just wanting to be sure I get the right one.

We are fortunate in having a range of aircraft capable of cruising at 80+ knots, just a matter of waiting for something.

Well, you can download degrees from the internet, why not a pilot license. Go for ATPL, they look authentic enough to fool the masses.
