My professor buddy has a impressive selection of them that he uses in his field work.

 

they are of various power and all the sparkling green type. the only real use he has for them is aligning his equipment so he can relay information (by radio) between them over long distances down in the antartic. he says other than that they have no other real use. the red ones that are used for gunsights are of a much lower power and freq., are less prone to dazzell you if shone in your eyes..
