Drone deliveries.

There was an item on tonight's news about a drone delivery service run from a control room in Port Melbourne which is operating drones around the world, eg. delivering Ebola vaccine in Africa. 

 

Terry White Pharmacies are planning to start delivery of medications to regional areas in Australia very shortly. There is even a possibility that they may deliver Coronavirus vaccine to country hospitals and injection clinics. They are working on CASA clearance for metropolitan deliveries.

Be interesting to fact check all of this........suspect there could be a tinge of hype on this stuff.

The news article showed the control room, and the workshop where drones were being assembled. It showed scenes of identical drones arriving in an African village and supplies being unloaded, and a spokesperson for Terry White discussing the use of these drones.

Impressive. Back in this part of the world a drone operator has been convicted for hitting a Paraglider  getting tangled in the brake lines at a beach in NZ. The US company Zipline started using these drones in Rwanda in 2016 delivering blood plasma & in Ghana in 2019 delivering vaccinations. A fantastic way to get essential medical supplies to places very quickly where the transport infrastructure is poor.

In the real world distance and capability don't match all the hype. Society now thinks it's OK to pay delivery people on pushbikes and motor scooters $3 an hour so how are drones going to compete with that?
