My car says my average speed is 50 kph. I drive a mixture of city and highway. The service interval is 15000 km, or every 300 hours. Cars are pretty tired at 200 000 km, or 4000 hours. Given that they operate at lower power than airplane engines, they seem kind of vaguely comparable.

A car engine is mostly at a very low % of it's maximum output.. An aircraft one starts going flat out to get you off the ground and if it's a bit sick you don't make it.. It has to do this every time, till it is repaired or reaches TBO. Comparing the two is near useless. Planes motors often sit for long periods also and don't have good aircleaners generally.. Idled in the air it cools rapidly because your descent speed is the same as cruise speed. Aircraft engines are built as light as possible so every part is working under more strain than in say a fishing trawler.  Nev
