But that ain't gonna bother your average recreational flyboy. Edited July 20, 2021 by Garfly 1

Marty_d Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 I'll leave the Rotax on this one. The Spitfire, now....

Garfly Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 BlackFly pilots wanted; no experience necessary. 1 1
planedriver Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 I guess there'd be a fair few Karen's out there who complain about the noise.
Thruster88 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Visibility from the cockpit looks a bit compromised. People will want to land these in their large backyard, what could possibly go wrong. Bird strike on a propeller?
Garfly Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 Or neighbourhood dog strike. ;- ) Karen, come home! All is forgiven. LOL
onetrack Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Or you'd need to keep right away from Hillbilly country! "Dang, Martha! Ah jest shot down the biggest an' loudest skeeter, ah ever seen!!" 1
Garfly Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 "That ain't no skeeter, Jed, that thar's a big black fly!" 2

Seriously though I reckon the software would be set up to recognise the uncommanded loss of an engine and compensate with the other 7. 1
kgwilson Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Why the big fat fuselage given there is only a 200lb payload? It can't be full of batteries or the thing would never get off the ground. It sort of lands vertically on the rear wheels & then flops down like a beached whale. Weird. 1
kgwilson Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 I had a look on the Opener website. It is basically a drone that you control from the inside but only if you weigh 90 KG or less. Press a button & it goes home. It floats but there is no clip of it actually landing on water. It can't be flown in the rain & sounds like a swarm of blow flies, hence the name I guess. The international version has about 60km of range. In cruise mode visibility is excellent but in landing/takeoff configuration you can only see the sky. 1
planedriver Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Looks like it needs a hole in the floor for landing approaches. Does not inspire too much confidence to me in it's current configuration. 1
pmccarthy Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 The shape for landing is quite clever. It gives an effect of shock absorption by landing on its tail and then rolling forward. Saves the weight of oleos or whatever. 1

kgwilson Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Given that it is a drone carrying a person it should have eyes in its bum to make sure it lands in a safe spot. 1
planedriver Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Couldn't agree with you more KGW. Kind Rgds, Captain Blind Freddy
Flightrite Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 (edited) you wouldn't get me in a contraption like that if ya paid me! Just a curiosity thing with virtually no practicality! Edited August 6, 2021 by Flightrite
Thruster88 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 I am curious as to why the stunning demo pilot did not turn down wind and land back at the takeoff spot. Not really a convincing demonstration. There may have been a technical glitch, always fly safe. 2
Marty_d Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 These guys seem a bit more advanced - they're already running scenic flights. 1
jackc Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 No doubt prices are up there, but maybe could become cheaper in the long run? Hopefully it boosts the lower cost sector….. https://www.geigerengineering.de/en/avionics/references?fbclid=IwAR3fs8L1SeDKKBeOeN6l7QT3rwazPVqXt9PwFeXVL_MnEMFQsjpmlRor8EY 1
Flightrite Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Nice music, I was asleep by around 2:30😉
