johnm Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I think ? .... I read of a non stop flight in an untralight to NZ - somewhere down south (Vic) Any info or where that thread is ? thanks
kgwilson Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 There have been plenty in the opposite direction including delivery flights. CASA's draconian rules prevent this happening legally from this side. Apparently someone in a pretty basic rag & tube flew from somewhere in Victoria & ended up on the South Island of NZ more than 20 years ago. If it is true then this is an amazing feat and is in real pioneering spirit.
Thruster88 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Ben Buckley did it from Mallacoota to NZ in a Rotax 582 2stroke powered Lightwing. https://www.recreationalflying.com/topic/700-australia-to-new-zealand-by-ultralight/ 1 2
jackc Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Unfortunately this is something that can never happen again, despite more modern airframes and engines.

Old Koreelah Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 I know of a Kiwi home-built Jodel which flew to Oz via Norfolk and Lord Howe, landing at Pt Macquarie. After a touring around this country for a few weeks he flew home again across the ditch. Trusted his VW engine.
