Garfly Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) This is a fascinating (for some of us ;- ) 8-part video series about the renovation of a rag-and-tuber left to gather dust for years. This video diary of the process is really nicely done; well shot, cleverly edited with an amusing he said/she said style of commentary. (Made all the more amusing by the auto-translate subtitles that YouTube provides). Actually, it's not all that necessary to bother with the translation since the visuals are pretty self-explanatory. For anyone who loves a heart-warming born-again story, this one has it all. 😉 The YouTube Description from Part One: It all starts with the gift of Irene and her son Simon: an old Skyranger that had been sleeping in a hangar for 12 years. From 2005, equipped with an HKS 700 engine, it is a VMAX covered in Xlam with a wingspan of 9m50. In this first episode we will go to find it in Angoulême and bring it back to LFPA (Persan Beaumont). 00:00 Intro 01:00 Trailer recovery 01:12 Departure for Angoulême 01:24 Loading onto the trailer 03:24 Return to Persan 04:19 Night cleaning If you click through to watch it on YouTube (by clicking on the YT icon on the lower right) then this link should take you through to the playlist for the whole series (for the Ranger tragics out there only). Garfly Posted June 26, 2021 Author Posted June 26, 2021 Here's the latest episode in the SkyRanger Renaissance in which she gets a new name (F-JIOK) a new radio (TRIG) and then, the old HKS700 motor has a few hiccups during low level test flying. As usual, very rough subtitling is available in YouTube [CC button then 'Auto-translate > English' from Cog-Wheel menu) otherwise, we get most of what's going on with no translation.
Garfly Posted June 26, 2021 Author Posted June 26, 2021 (edited) By the way, it's instructive to note our test pilot's reaction to the initial engine falter (from around 03:30). He registers his surprise and the stick goes forward all within a second - no leisurely 3 or 4 secs. WTF period. Good if all us aeroplane pilots have those kind of reflexes. (Even if not conducting a test flight. ;- ) Edited June 27, 2021 by Garfly
