Yesterday in the course of regular maintenance on the Rotax, found a EGT sensor that the hose clamp BAND had fractured . Fractured not in the punched band , but the continuous band about 1cm from the fixed end of the band clamp.  Permitting exhaust gases to escape early...

One to look out for.

TT clamp ~ 1840 hours.... TT engine ~ 500 h.

This EGT probe/sender concept works amazingly well  - for a while. Yours has done quite well. The whole thing is subject to a fair bit of heat/vibration damage. I suspect it has been subjected to over enthusiastic tightening - this combined with heating/cooling cycles, has probably made the metal "brittle" so failing.

A lot of bands/clamps are made from 304 stainless, which has a lower tensile strength than 316 stainless. Always use 316 stainless bands/clamps, for greater strength and higher corrosion resistance.

tempered/heat treated. then again... the again and again.... and again.

And 316 withstands that constant tempering and re-tempering far better than any other metal or alloy.
