red750 Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 The word Trivia appears in many posts on this site, but there is no thread where bits of trivia can be collected, so I thought I'd start one. How many of you knows what a "Sesquiplane" is? A Sesquiplane is a biplane where one wing, generally the lower one, is significantly smaller in surface area than the other wing. The prefix "sesqui" means "one and a half", as in sesquicentenary, which means 150 years. So the literal meaning of sesquiplane is one and a half wings. Some examples: 1 1
Old Koreelah Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Would that category then include the many flying boats that have an aero foil-type hydroplane? 1
red750 Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 It would appear not, Old K. There are no Dorniers or Boeing Clipper on the Wiki Sesquiplane list. The seaplanes on the list appear to have the lower wing above waterline with boat type hulls and floats towards the wingtips. 1
