Kyle Communications Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 Doesnt look good. Brisbane Times report a crash west of Bribie Island near Coochin Creek. The picture looks like it maybe a Pitts special from Caboolture...not sure though. I hope not as I think it maybe the one 2 hangars down from mine

Flying Binghi Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Sad day. Due to the debris spread it looks like the wings separated well before the crash.

Kyle Communications Posted August 20, 2021 Author Posted August 20, 2021 yes the wings and other bits are a fair way from the fuselage...looks like a inflight breakup
Blueadventures Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Hearing on news that cracked eye bolts discovered. Should be more in the released report to date. News reported advising other similar aircraft owner (maybe only one other in Australia.) All detail unconfirmed just heard on radio news (ABC) today. 1
pmccarthy Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 The report. http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2021/aair/ao-2021-032/ 1 1
Thruster88 Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 The threads of the eye bolts would be subjected to side loads due to the design. Not good. 2 1
facthunter Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Threads like that are bound to cause problems if there's any bending loads, it's only a matter of time. There's no redundancy either Nev 1
Kyle Communications Posted November 3, 2021 Author Posted November 3, 2021 That was a interesting read also surprised how quick it has come out 1 3

There is nothing wrong with eye bolts when used correctly for struts or stays, control rods etc. In that design there is a rigid point at the top of the (3) cabane struts where the eye bolt screws in. Any loads from positive and negative g or rolling would put side loads on the threads, threads are not designed for this. 2
facthunter Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Easy to rig but something fixed would be better once that is done. . A thread is a crack initiating fault. All corners should be radiused and Not even a scratch allowed. It's NOT a high time aeroplane. Nev 1 1
