I don’t get how the elevator (behind the tail) and the empennage (wide) don’t shield the rudder and thereby stop it being controllable in a spin.

Poor visibility from the cockpit also. Appears to have slight reverse stagger. Biplanes are generally slower Drag from wires and wing interference. It's easy to make them strong.  Nev
