Made up a bettsometer using a $9.75 ebay electronic scale and some 0.9mm mig wire for the hook. Pull for dacron appears to be 3lb or 1360g on the fabric and stitching. Tested my recent purchase which passed easily, whent double no problem.

Is the diameter of the Betsometer needle .9mm?

Should be 0.045 inch or 1.1 mm. Will get some 40 stainless lock wire when next at work.

Your fabric must be in excellent condition to handle 1380 grams @ .9mm then 🙂

I wouldn't have thought Thruster fabric would be as heavy as the top surface of a trick wing.

I prefer the thumb test. Don't have to punch holes in the fabric.

Needle goes between the strands so no damage  done, just reassurance of fabric suitability on passing, also test the strength of the stitching with a hook.

That's good . I thought it would punch holes in the fabric .

Sharp needle and you sort of wriggle push it into the fabric, apply care in the start to be between the strands.
