kgwilson Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 A Qtar A380 appears to hover as it attempts to land at Heathrow. There was a 56 knot crosswind. The UK was being battered by Storm Eunice with winds that reached 196 kmh. In the end the pilots decide to go around. It landed on the third attempt. The Speedbird producer said "Never before have I seen that and I have been live streaming Aviation for 10 years". 1
RFguy Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 (edited) wow. a good example (again), rehearsal and familiarity of the (challenging) situation. This one took 3 attempts. another video same day https://twitter.com/i/status/1494649725982810114 https://twitter.com/i/status/1494663115664990209 a whole swag of them https://twitter.com/MrSammyJames/status/1494663115664990209 Others- suggest posting AS LINK INSTEAD , compared to embedded video..... facthunter Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 REALLY LARGE aeroplanes always appear to be travelling slow.. In these strong and gusty conditions observe the control movements. the QATAR landing was a "late save" which could easily have been very firm. When you have strong headwind components, you can easily add Kts to your approach speed as the spoilers will plant you firmly and the groundspeed is not as high as when there's no Headwind component. onetrack Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 The video is pretty useless, due to poor depth perception, thanks to massive levels of zoom. Any aircraft looks like its floating, from that distance. 1
